Bluetooth obd2 HELP

So a friend bought one of these online because his CEL came on. He received it in the mail today and we tried it out plugged it in and everything, red led came on. I downloaded REV app(free version) on IOS. Didn't seem to connect, so I downloaded another random one and same thing happened. My question is what to do now? I'm stumped cant figure out what to do.

Did you pair it through the phone before firing up the app?

You always have to pair a bluetooth device before operating it.

I don't use iOS but, I assume you go to settings > find the bluetooth settings > pair it with the dongle

How do you sync it ? It's just the device and your phone, it did not come with any cords or any other power source.

You pair it with your phone by inputting a four digit numerical code into the bluetooth pairing screen. Then your device will recognize it and be able to communicate with it.

Go to the buetooth connection settings on your phone...same way you would connect to a Bluetooth headset. I use the Torque app on an android phone and it works fine.

those cheap ebay/amazon ELM327 dongles only work if you jailbreak your phone, install roqy for bluetooth, and the obd2 mod. that is your option. i've done this and it works.

iphone uses wifi
android uses bluetooth

for iphone you either need a kiwi wifi Kiwi Wifi

but it looks like somebody finally came out with an iphone friendly bluetooth device, although i don't know anything about them other than quick look on google. so research first

a cool app is Dashcommand for iphone http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dashc...321293183?mt=8

i've jailbroken my phone, i have a $20 amazon bluetooth thing, used dashcommand, and hooked it up to my pioneer deck in my car.

since android uses bluetooth, you can use torque as many people do

Dashcommand for iphone DashCommand - OBD-II gauge dashboards, scan tool, and vehicle diagnostics for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store
^listen to this guy. You cannot use the bluetooth dongle with your iphone. I've tried doing those ways where you jailbreak your iphone, download roqyBT and roqyOBD2, don't do that stuff unless you don't want to be able to update your iphone and void your warranty.. I tried it all an not cant restore my phone and update it :/ you have to use an android based phone and download torque or some other app like it

The iPhone has to use Wifi? It wont connect to any ODB dongle through BT? Seems odd, wifi is overkill there and uses x5 the battery that BT would.
