I would say time consuming and the cost is average. it also depends if the heads warped.

I've seen one head on the SOHC EJ25 changed out in 45 minutes.....

now jokes aside, it really depends on a lot of factors: do you remove the engine or do it with the engine in the car, do you need to clean the heads or not, do you need to machine the heads or not. Also I believe that sohc and dohc take different time. of course a tech who has done it 100 times already is gonna take much less time, and if you have the right tools.


I would be up to help you but it depends when you plan on doing it.

Well either way it goes, the heads would have to come off and get resurfaced. New APR headstuds and the crap load of gaskets that come along with the repair.

Thanks. I would do it at home, but Im reading the thread about "engine swaps galore at EQ tuning" and thinking about going in a different direction with this...

Yea, my 00 RS's head gasket is okay in the meantime, but it is a bit leaky. It was recommended that I should eventually replace it when I do my 90k at the most (which is 6k away). Ugh.
