Yeah, my fiance hasn't seen the film, but she is aware of the destruction diamonds carry, which is why she does NOT want a diamond ring... Works out for her, works out for my wallet.

But yeah, I haven't seen the movie either, but the whole diamond ring thing is lame as hell. It was never a tradition, it was made up by the diamond company "de beers" and every woman in the US is sold on it. Sad, but true. Not to mention the lives that these stupid gems cost... It's all about money and greed.

I never knew diamonds had this history. I was shocked! But yea, really, never ever will I buy a diamond, just like I'll never buy a fur coat.

The girl who is the African man's wife was one of my mom's students. Her little brother was in my class. I haven't seen the movie, but I haven't heard any bad reviews on it.

Meh. Am I the only one who thought this was only okay? It is great that a movie starring big actors can be conscious of current social issues globally, but the ending of the movie just pissed me the hell off. I mean, the end of the Leo character was tolerable as it wrapped up a fictional love plot, but the ending with Solomon Vandy triumphing over an evil-doing corporation just made me laugh. I mean, all that really does is make the audience feel a sense of closure in the problem and that justice was served. So yeah sure, it makes one think, but does it make one think enough?
