I never meant to give the impression that I care about pirating. To each there own. I was trying to defend ldivngaga against the onslaught of bad ju-ju that spewed out of umm-boost? and dre.
But don't steal. Borrow.

But don't steal. Borrow.
and for the record i harbor no hard feelings towards anyone.
If i call anyone an idiot im more then likely talking about the last remark and not the person character.
(and i think i am more of an ***, idiot and SOB then anyone else here)

LDIVINAG and Mexicanpizza,
If you at all follow the cases of MGM V. 321 Stuidios, the 321 Studios V. MGM counterclaim and other similar suits and counterclaims between 321 Studios and other movie production companies you will note two important facts:
1) There is no injunction against 321 Studios. You may still purchase their DVD copying software which is sold honestly as a way to circumvent DVD protection schemes.
2) 321 Studios counterclaims for clarification DMCA is still not settled
Therefore, currently, backing up DVDs is not a a crime. Backing up VHS and Laserdisc has never been a crime. Laserdisc will most likely fall under a similar category as DVDs and the DMCA will apply here. Since, however, it is not a settled issue and there is no injunction, nothing illegal is going on.
If you tell me that you own a VHS or LD of this version, you and I are doing nothing illegal. If you are lying to me, that's not my problem. If you don't have an original copy, you shouldn't ask for nor accept a back up copy. If Criterion, Embassy, Janus Films, The Voyager Company, Vangelis or their respective label wish to sue me to not provide the free backup service that 321 Studios currently, legally provides through purchasing their software, even so I will happily reneg on my offer to be helpful and generous to my I-Club acquantainces.

if you wish to break the law in a public forum, then that's your perogative.
before you edited your original post, to me, it sounded like "blantant disregard for the law."
maybe you should have taken it offline via email or PM where the PUBLIC cant see it.
and i hate to say it, but by listing those names, you might end up making a list of people that could be charged as accomplishes after the fact.

No where in the law does it state that. It is illegal to make copies for commercial use but personal is ok.

xcopy will only do single sided layers and they stick a big disclaimer before each disc.
so a dual layered original dvd will result in 2 discs made.
who wants that?
