Best way to get from 280 to USF???

Ok, so I commute every morning from Santa Clara to school at USF. I end up taking 280, since traffic on 101 is horrendous. The only downside though, is that as soon as I exit onto 19th avenue, it takes me close to 30minutes to traverse 19th to get onto Fulton, where the school is. I can take some of the side streets like 18th once I pass Sloat, but that still can take a while. I've tried making a right from 18th onto Lincoln, going down that way and getting onto Stanyon, but it's a gamble and it can take me just as long. Does anyone know of a better way? Having to drive 30minutes through the city to get like 3 miles seems ridiculous when it takes me just as long to get from Santa Clara to SF via 280 which is about 40 miles. Please help!!!

from 280 you can try, i think it's ocean. then hit up forester (fun drive around resdential though) and go around the old juvenille hall then hit up 7th ave. from 7th ave. get on 9th ave. and go through golden gate park or you can hit up lincoln which has a lot of traffic in the morning. once you go through golden gate park you'll be on arguello and fulton. let me see if i can find a map.

you can also exit 19th ave. for this route as well. my directions are to go around forest hill. i suck at giving out directions for that part of town. hopefully someone can help me out.

ok, let me try this again. 280>exit for 19th ave.>onto junipero serra instead of 19th ave>right onto portola>left onto woodside ave>right onto laguna honda (stay on laguna honda)>that becomes 7th ave.>left onto judah or irving>right onto 9th>go into golden gate park>right onto martin luther king (i believe this would be the first intersection in the park)>straight>where the road forks go to the left side>stop sign make a right>stop sign make a right>then about 1/4 mile make a left into this road in the middle of the street (one way road that has a bike lane on the left, it'll twist for a little bit)>right at stop sign>you should be at arguello and lincoln now. from here you should know the way. get a sandwich at arguello supermarket if you get a chance. home of the famous turkey sandwich.

When using any driving directions or map, it's a good idea to do a reality check and make sure the road still exists, watch out for construction, and follow all traffic safety precautions. This is only to be used as an aid in planning. hopefully i got everything right. i am NOT 100% sure i got all the streets right. give yourself a lot of extra time if you plan on trying this because a lot of the streets are tricky and hard to find and i'm not sure about traffic conditions in the morning. hopefully i don't get you lost. LOL!!!

You can also take 280N all the way downtown to the 6th St exit. Make a left turn onto Harrison. Make a right on 7th St. Another right onto Leavenworth. Left on Pine. Pine will take you all the way down to that intersection at Masonic and Geary where the Lucky Penny is. Right turn on Fulton, and you should be set from there.

Oh yeah...if you get off at 6th St. between the times that you cannot make a left onto Harrison, stay on your right lane & cut through the Shell gas station to get onto Harrison St.

Thumbs up From a former USF student!

280 exit onto Junipero Serra, make a soft right onto Portola (it'll become Market on its own as you go down the hill), make a left onto Clayton, that'll lead you onto Ashbury, left on Haight or any of the other the streets parallel to it, right on Stanyan, right on Fulton, left on Parker, right on Golden Gate, and you're right in front of Harney before you know it.

I used to take that route all the time when I was at USF

Alternate route: if Portola is really backed up and you can't make it quickly to Clayton, you can go up and over Twin Peaks. From Portola, make a left onto Twin Peaks Blvd., a left on Midcrest Way, a right on Panorama Drive, a right on Clarendon, and voila, you'll eventually end up where Clayton and Twin Peaks Blvd converge. This route is longer than the one I recommended, but there's NEVER any traffic whatsoever.

Any questions, feel free to PM me or check a map.

or being a former usf student myself (ahem choku dori) You can take 280, take the highway 1 exit to Skyline blvd (right where Serramonte is) and just follow it all the way to Great Highway where u can make a right onto Fulton and go all the way down. Or u can take the same way and enter into Golden Gate Park and go through the park from there and taking the Arguello exit. Either way there's not much traffic to deal with. All u have to deal with is some slow drivers camping next to each other so u can't pass lol

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll try one of the alternate routes when I get a chance to leave early, or am feeling adventurous. I don't want to risk being late to class trying out a new way to get to school...heh. Any of you guys go to the law school at USF, or are alums from there?
