Best Drive I Have Had In The Bay Area

So on Saturday night I had a friend come over with his now fully functional Mazda Rx-7 (97 FD twin turbo for you enthusiasts) and his girlfriends 350Z to take a little drive.

After much thought - we all decided to take a mountain trail for a ride.

We took 280 N to ****, and took that all the way up to ***** and then took that ALLL the way to the ******* Park.

Then we packed up westbound until we hit the ** junction and took that to Skyline all the way to 92 where we hooked up back to 280 and went home.

---

Wow, talk about an amazing drive. I had yet to really give the WRX a nice road like that to see what she can do and I was not just impressed - I was BLOWN AWAY.

And yes, we all drove responsibly (you don't need to be going very fast to miss a turn and become a crash site at the bottom of a mountain) but taking some of those turns at 40mph feels like so much more, so why go faster?

My friend in his FD was leading and even pushing almost 400hp with thousands of dollars in handling, power and weight management - I was able to keep the gap at 1 car length pretty much the whole way (those straight roads on Skyline he had me sitting, but that was to be expected).

The whole time I was just in awe over the power and control that the WRX had to offer on those twisties - it was incomparable to every other car that I have been in.

So if you have 2 hours on your hands and a 1/4 tank that you don't mind seeing evaporate - I highly recommend this trail!

PS: There was this one turn right before the junction that is REALLY nasty. It is labeled as a 35mph turn - yeah right, more like a U-turn (its a switch back) and if you miss it - you are going OFF the mountain. I had to e-brake to avoid certain doom, but the part that scared me the most was that the SECOND thought in my head was "Oh my God, I almost died there!"

The first thought was "Dude...you SO could have made that turn with the e-brake..." Yes, I know I am a little crazy too...

dont name roads!

plz edit.

have respect for the mtn.

There are 50 ricers reading this post as guests and are going to said roads as you read this...crashing off the cliff and calling the tow company and CHP to come to the scene and have our roads shut down.

unless you want more CHP to patrol said areas, and maybe ad speed bumps at every corner in a few years...then keep posting!

Glad you had fun though. but its not gonna be there if people keep advertising it.

Skyline is all you need to say, because that road sucks, but everyone already thinks its OMG so cool.

nothing personal...

Sorry about that, I'll be honest I didn't even think of it (never had to worry about information getting 'leaked' before I guess *eek*).

My mistake, and I do apologize.

haha *'s are fine

Good thing we caught it within 5 minutes i should be Road Name Enforcement Mod!

If people want a drive, they will invest in a full tank of gass and explore after they search google earth for a few hours.

I love ****** road at the top after **** **** ends!

Glad you took it in a mature and responsible manner! Sorry if i ruined this thread...i tend to do that sometimes oops

No need to be sorry, I feel like an *** for calling out names - not used to the secrecy involved just yet.

My friend, myself and another WRX owner (he's a lurker here IIRC) are going to be taking another drive on Wednesday...somewhere similar but not the same.

If anyone is interested, PM me...

That was the first thought - but as much as we would like to detach from our families after dinner - we will probably be so full and sleepy to actually go out.

When I could afford the gas about 2 years ago I would go on the Doc Wong route by myself or with a friend just for fun. There are some good roads in there, as well as some good scenery. And it is always cool driving by the Ocean on HWY 1 towards the end of it. Best part is when we finish at 4 corners at skyline, right down to road is my house (or at least De Anza Blvd)
