Berkeley Hills were a hot spot today

So i was going on a usual hill run in the Berkeley hills today (this is a daily activity for me being that I am within 5 blocks 2 entrance roads to the hills), and i saw two other rexs. One was an 02/03 yellow wrx wagon lowered with no tint, and a sick WRB sti dropped to the ground with a big sticker on the back window. Are you guys on I-club?

Do any of you other guys make it out to drive the hills in berkeley and Tilden?

sounds like a it must be a fun drive, I'll have to check it out sometime.....what is a good time to drive that area, when there isn't much traffic, if any? what's the best route to take? and what condition are the roads in? Sorry for all the questions, I'm always looking for new areas to explore....although that is a long drive from where I am, I do go up to Sacramento every now and then, and maybe could hit it up on the way one time. Thanks

There are quite a few varied routes over and through the Oakland/Berkeley East bay hills, they all tend to be really heavily trafficed on weekends, but like these guys are saying, night time can be pretty quiet up there.

Hard to say there's a best, I can think of at least a half dozen really fun ones, check out a map of the area and try something other than 80 next time for sure

hints/suggestions: Redwood Road, Wildcat Canyon, Bear Valley, Alhambra Valley into Martinez....

very quiet.... actually today at about 2pm i had no cars in front of me for 2/3's of the run. But if there anyone on the road and you are doin turns as fast as i go (30mph+) you are gonna catch up with someone. i dont actually know the names of the roads but the route i usually take:

Driving time about 15min:
Go up the road that runs on the North side of the claremont hotel (dont go fast till you get past the houses cuz cops like to pick people off here),
once you get to the 4 way stop go left,
go past Steam Trains into the big 4th gear turn, into a straight way,
then it gets more tight with 2nd gear turns as you go past the "wall" where the East Bay Rats bike crew hangs at,
then you'll come to a stop where if you go left you'll go back down Centennial to the football stadium.

And there are soo many other routes you can get from going different ways at the stop signs. Explore!

I'm out there all the time in my VW. I work right in Orinda Village so I usually pop over to Tilden after work.

true.... it is kinda of hard to see at night, especially when its foggy. But once you get to know the road well driving at night is no problem.

yea even if you know the road, if a deer runs in the road or is in the middle of the road up ahead, i dont think it will help. i was coming around a corner at night and this deer pops out of no where in the middle of the road, luckily i didnt hit it. im going on a ride on my bike there tomorrow morning ish afternoon maybe ill see some of you out there.
