Being careful only gets you SO FAR.

This is pretty crazy. Someone went the extra mile to make this thing, looks totally professional and it would fool about every single one of us.

Careful out there

the only thing they need to do is make it look used since when you see a brand spanking new card thing on a highly used atm something is up.

I don't get why thieves put more effort into stealing than most jobs require.

They probably had the job and got fired, so to get back they put that prior job knowledge to use.

I've seen a couple of these - they are purpose made for the ATM and can't really be removed once installed, so the crook has to be physically close if it's a wireless download/storage or has to revisit the location to download the data if it's not wireless.

The two setups I saw were both wireless - but had no storage, so they could only use the stolen data if the person was close enough for the data to be sent to a laptop for storage.

Did you guys click the "green sleeve" link that was in the original link? Some dude told the banks manager and they didn't do anything. He literally went back later and it was still on the atm... now that is ****ed up.

They've never seen/heard of it before, what do you expect them to do? If someone comes into my workplace and tells me he saw XYZ and I should change my locks...do I? No, he's crazy.

The correct thing for the man, once he realized what it was, is to call the police. People have been defrauded, INSIDE the bank! The manager could've been in on it.

How hard would it be to make a gray plastic cover like that? Isn't it really difficult to create something like that?

Why would someone go through THAT much work just to steal someone's ATM? Sounds like they were targeting someone specific to get into their specific account... Maybe they knew that someone went to a certain bank on certain days to deposit money, knew they wouldn't check the ATM or be suspicious, and knew if they had access to that specific account that they could withdraw A LOT of money.

Seems like too much work for a random job since a lot of people hardly have any money in their accounts, def not enough to make it worth their while.

Now imagine if these thieves applied their skills and mastery to the real world? I'm sure anyone with that kind of know-how would be able to make a good living for themselves.
