Oh, thought you'd have a Bay Bridge Photo Shoot as the bridge was doing like this...

Ha! Sounds like you may be attempting to replace vacuum hoses? I have done that twice, hope I never have to do it again! Use silicone hoses and 2x zipties on each so you never have to do it again.

Some of my best days were at the wheel of a '95 FD. My favorite car to drive, but I have yet to drive a NSX.

One, the bolts were not dipped in Hydrochloric Acid. I know you said as such, but it definitely wasn't hydrochloric acid. But still, even with the bolts being the way they are, it's still far safer than the old bridge.

Two, that's what 10,000,013,000 buys you in Oakland. The people of Oakland voted to have that bridge instead of retrofitting the old one for $290 million.

Three, They cannot implode the bride due to EPA concerns. The bridge will be dismantled piece by piece.

My wife works for the oversight committee overseeing the completion of the bridge.

Also the Troll will be moved to a museum.

Take a look at this article: Bay Bridge troubles began with design - SFGate

It mentioned the hydrochloric acid bath that is part of the galvanizing process. They were not supposed to do this, but one supplier did not get the message and did this anyway. Is that incorrect? There are several articles about this, IIRC.

You say it's safe "even with the bolts the way they are" but the important ones that would come into play only in a strong earthquake, cannot be tested or inspected, and have been that way for many years. They only know about this because of the exposed ones that snapped as they began to torque them. I realize that the bike path problems were not related to this, but I firmly believe that no one (who can talk about it) really knows how safe this bridge is.

I don't really know much about it, only what I have read and heard. So, I could be way off of course!

I "know" that not all of the bolts came from that supplier that didn't get the proper memo and double dipped the bolts. So not all of the bolts are bad. Out of 1000's of bolts, only some came from this supplier. But a fix was engineered that "should" with stand an earthquake much better than the old bridge that is rusted and would not be able to withstand one, no matter what. The new bridge is seismically safer than the old span even in its current state.
