I believe the Adalberto's drive thru is open 24 hours. There's a few locations in Sacramento and it's good greasy mexican food.

+1 on Mikuni's being bad. It's the PF Changs/Fats of Japanese food. Americanized and glamorized so you pay more for it.

I'll be the third person to tell you that Todai sucks. Also, it's a Korean seafood buffet, not Japanese. Don't worry, the company is known to deceive customers and employees. I know b/c a friend of mine used to manage the one in Pleasonton and she told me how they'd hire all these international students and put them on student or work visas and trick them into thinking that they'll eventually get their green card. It's run by a bunch of scam artists. For god's sake, how is it a buffet if you can only have half a lobster per trip to the buffet counter and they release it out slowly so they run out immediately. I went there once with friends b/c supposedly it was free on my birthday. Turns out that it was a certificate for me to go free NEXT time but I had to pay during my birthday. But I think that they changed that policy. I for one will never go back to one again. The one in Daly City already shut down, which is a good thing.

Although I haven't been, I've been dying to try both Gary Danko in SF and French Laundry in Yountville, and when I can afford $600 meals, I will.

In the meantime, here are my some of the restaurants I like, off the top of my head.

Cheesesteak - Jersey Joes in Belmont
Chinese - Used to be Treasure Pot in Los Altos/Palo Alto, but they closed down years ago. Now, it's probably Little Sichuan in San Mateo, Pan Tao in Cupertino, or San Tung on Irving in SF.
Japanese - Azuma in Cupertino or Kisaku in San Mateo. (Ryowa for ramen)
Korean - My parent's restaurant, Korean Secret Garden in Santa Clara. (If you go, expect Asian style service and don't ***** about it).
Sandwich - Molinari's in SF OR Lee's Sandwiches, everywhere.
Pizza - Vito's Pizza in Santa Clara (as close to NY pizza as you'll get around here.) Bay Area people always rave about Blondies in SF, but to me, their pizza is worse than Tombstone frozen pizza. Pizza Antica in Santana Row is good too.
Thai - Krung Thai in San Jose (either location)
Taqueria - Las Vegas Taqueria in Milpitas, Freedom Burrito in Santa Clara/San Jose, and El Gruyense in Redwood City
Mexican - La Milpa in Milpitas
Asian-Fusion - used to be Slanted Door in SF, but my most recent visit was very disappointing.
Steak - Ruth's Chris in SF
Prime Rib - San Mateo Prime
Tapas - Used to be Cascal in Mtn. View, but now, dunno.
Cuban - La Bodequita del Medio in Palo Alto or Habana Cuba in San Jose.
Italian - Frankie Johnny and Luigi's in Saratoga/Mtn. View (I like this place more for nostalgia's sake than anything)

That's it for now...I'll add more as they come to mind.

I didn't really care for La Milpa, but I haven't tried Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's yet.

It's a small family-owned chain. They have about 5 or 6 restaurants total. I believe the one in Milpitas is called Giorgios. Anyways, I won't lie and say it's the best Italian food you'll ever eat. But, what gets me is the atmosphere. It feels "old-school" in the kind of way you don't see anymore. The first time I had spaghetti and meatballs was here, over 20 years ago, and coming back after all that time to see nothing's changed is ironically "refreshing." It's the kind of place you can count on - go there tomorrow and then go there 2 years from now knowing everything will be exactly the same as it was.

As for the food, it's your traditional Italian fare. I stick to the basic pastas and pizzas, but I'm sure the rest of their entrees are equally good.
