From Band of Brothers comes The Pacific
I'm sure many of you guys/gals have seen the HBO mini series Band of Brothers. For those of you who haven't you really should. It's an amazing series following the soldiers of easy company who are paratroopers in WWII. I really can't rave about it enough it was unbelievably awesome. Produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Here is the trailer(apologies for not knowing how to embed it)

Today a friend told me that the same people have gotten together and created another series called The Pacific which is based around Pearl Harbor from what I can see in the trailer which is below.

Anyway I'm extremely excited and wanted to share with those of you who are fans of Band of Brothers.

+1, I remember hearing a couple years ago that they planned to do another mini-series, but this time on the Pacific campaign. It's about time someone tried to help us forget the Michael Bay WWII film disaster(and no I don't mean a disaster film). Hollywood-types should already know that no Pearl Harbor film could possibly be made any better than Tora! Tora! Tora! Luckily for HBO, this is going to be a mini-series, and therefore cannot be judged against the king.

I'm seriously stoked!
Band of Brothers is the ****! Too bad that most of the vets aren't alive anymore, it's going to be tough to get real life perspectives like in Band of Brothers

I can't tell if it's the marines getting all of the glory in this film or if a more "historically accurate" presentation has been made.

Since Band of Brothers was about the Army fighting in Europe, Tom Hanks said he was going to make a series portraying the Marines fighting in the Pacific campaign.

Which is cool, it's just that the Army did more amphibious assaults in the SP than the marines did, yet the marines get all of the credit.
Band of brothers is one of the best TV series ever made, i have the DVD box set and have watched the series front to back about 4 or 5 times. I cannot wait for The Pacific!

Every since BOB came out I've been saying they needed to continue the series by featuring another part of the military.
Like the guy that wrote Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. GREAT books. He has a new one out about the Japanese Navy. Which I'm guessing means he either has or is going to write one about our Navy. I think it's a very powerful way to show the war to people. As history has shown the winners dictate what is remembered. By showing both sides you bring true humanity into the wars and show just what kind of damage was done... on both sides.
Flyboys is a good example. That book is ridiculously difficult to read.
I"m very much looking forward to this.
