BAM X: Official Activities
I haven't checked in here for quite some time, but it looks like I'll be able to make it to this now. That being said, I'm w/ the folks saying KICKball. While I'm down for softball (I ain't got the timing for baseball anymore... way too old now
), kickball is a safer route & way more all-ages/family-friendly. Like Al, I go up the middle a TON... just my natural swing... and I'd hate to knock someone in head or to the body.
Plus, no need for bringing extra mitts, bats, etc.
Or we could play a variation we called "swatball" in elem. school: Using a bat to hit a soccer-, volley- or kick-ball.
Thoughts? And sorry if I'm throwing things outta whack, esp. since I'm a nobody.

so i went to buy most of the stuff for the games today. i will still need a baseball & baseball bat if anyone has & is able to contribute.
i bought 6 soccer ***** to use as dodgeballs since i couldn't find actual dodgeballs, so we'll improvise! but add dodgeball to that list of games!
i've included an additional game which will include both the kiddies & the adults
all i ask is for all of you to participate in these games since i am spending money out of my own pocket for these activities. let's make this a fun day for everyone!
thanks.

Again, w/ safety a major concern, I think kickball is the way to go. Also, we wouldn't want a wayward foul/HR ball on a trajectory toward any of our beloved Subies or any other vehicle in the lots for that matter. And we don't have to worry about having enough mitts to go around. I realize we only need 'em when playing defense, but "swamp hand" is kinda nasty when sharing gear.
But if we stick w/ softball, I 100% concur w/ lickwid's "non-composite/single-walled bats" ONLY policy.
Oh... and we could always try my swatball idea I posted yesterday, too.

I guess I skimmed too quickly, Anna.
I didn't realize your O-course included a baseball/softball element so you'll need some equipment for that part.
Not too familiar w/ kickball?!? Now we definitely have to play so you (& others) can get their inner child on!
And if folks wanna try swatball, I can give a quick run-down & help out w/ that, too.

You did a lot of work putting things together. I'm sorry it didn't go as planned so more people could play the games. Maybe next year timing of things will go smoother. Thanks to you and ave for doing this, I know you were worn out running around all day. Oh and I'm sure you have met Cliff many times
