Can we get more info about the charity? I personally know about Jacob's Heart foundation however I'm sure there will be people out there who want to know where this money is going towards. Id dump $100 just because I really support charities that are into cancer research and wellness.

Since 1998, Jacob’s Heart has served nearly 500 families who have heard the devastating words, “your child has cancer.” Through the years they have celebrated remission for hundreds of children, and they have grieved with families at the loss of a precious child. Through it all, they remain steadfast in their mission; our reason for existence, an unwavering dedication to improving the quality of life for each child by providing support to parents and families.
What does Jacob’s Heart do?
Jacob’s Heart supports the entire family – art programs, counseling, financial assistance, in home and hospital visits, celebrations, and support groups. Our programs cater to a family’s basic needs – emotional support, help with household bills, an understanding community, time together as a family, a place to turn for information and even fun.
When a family is connected to Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services, they are embraced by a community of support – staff, volunteers and other resource agencies. We are present to support the entire family as they move through the diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
Our programs reduce stress, provide comfort, improve mental health and provide resources for local children with cancer and their families.
We’re there so that no one in our community faces childhood cancer alone. To some thismeans a hand to hold or a wise ear to listen, to others it means helping to pay the rent and simply knowing there’s someone to rely on for information. For a child with cancer, it may come as a friend who knows exactly what they feel without saying a word and for siblings it may mean a volunteer friend that is there just for them. Each person’s experience is unique and we treat them that way
Isn’t pediatric cancer pretty rare?
NO, pediatric cancer is not rare. It is the #1 disease killer of children. It is estimated that of every 340 children will develop some form of cancer before they are 20 years old. More than 1,500 children and young adults under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer each year in California. Of these, over 1,100 are under the age of 15.
Family Services
Jacob’s Heart offers an array of supportive services to families of children with cancer under the age of 18 who are living in Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and South Santa Clara Counties. Families become part of Jacob’s Heart by referral from social workers at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and University of California at San Francisco Children’s Medical Center.
The Counseling and Case Management Program provides a complete assessment of family needs and assistance in locating resources to meet those needs. Taking special care to work with other community agencies to connect them with additional services, such as in-home medical care and transportation services.
Working with each family member to address his or her individual needs, the Jacob’s Heart team is present to celebrate successful treatment, as well as to celebrate, honor, and mourn the children whose lives are lost to cancer. Jacob’s Heart is there at diagnosis, during treatment, and beyond, with the goal of continuing to maintain quality of life, no matter what a family’s circumstances. All services are provided at no cost and are available in Spanish and English.

last couple years ive won a few prizes

last year i dropped 150, year before was 100.
Talking with a couple other SRiC members and a few of us might drop some more this year

The way i see it (and everyone else should too) is that im donating money to charity.. if I win something, thats just a bonus
I edited all my posts in this thread to reflect the current "I'm sending money to family or friends" option since 'Send as a Gift' is no longer available.
T minus 12 days, 10 hours, 38 minutes & counting
until the prepay period ends.
*** When sending PayPal payment, please select the "I'm sending money to family or friends" option when in the 'Send Money' step.
Make sure the "I will pay the fee" box is checked if paying by credit or debit.
See Rescuer's post above (#193) for full details***

Essentially... I got involved with a leadership roll with bam a couple years ago. This is my 3rd year heavily involved. One of my main goals was to shift it more towards charity and focus it on people... local people. The first year it went to the family of an i-club member. Last year it went to a local family and auto enthusiast family. This year I chose Jacobs Heart Foundation.
My old boss is on the board. She is a great person with a heart for helping people. Jacobs Heart has 5 people running the show. You can choose where your money goes and if you'd like 100% of the money to go to that family/person or if you'll just let JHF do what they need with it.
So it's not like one of those huge charities that you give them $100 and $28 goes to the family and the rest goes to commercials and paying staff.
Jacob's Heart Childrens Cancer Support Services | Jacob if you'd like to read up on it.
Essentially it was started to help children fighting and recovering from the fight against cancer. It's a great organization.
I highly suggest reading up on it if you're curious or if you're interested in helping a charity in the future. Or if you know someone that needs the help in the Santa Cruz County area.
I hope to keep the charity contributions going in this direction as long as I'm involved with BAM. Children. Families. Local. Small.

I buy $100 every year and I'm broke. It's for charity. Who cares if I win. I've spent who the hell knows... call it $300 in the lat 2 year. I won a t-shirt from GST which I could have just asked Mike for. LOL!
