BAIC MTBers: What would you buy
So, after my 05 Santa Cruz superlight fell off my rack, thule has agreed to pay for a new one to replace it, at a cost of $2100. So, they will be writing me a check for that amount. I feel comfortable kicking in upto another $400 or so right now, so that makes a total budget of $2500 for a new bike.
My requirements:
XC oriented full suspension bike (I am NOT interested in a big hit bike - anything over ~29 lbs is out)
LX/XT or better components
Prefer smaller bike makers (SC, Ellsworth, Ibis, etc) over larger (Fisher, Trek, Specialized)
So far, on the list:
Santa Cruz Superlight
Santa Cruz Blur XC
Ellsworth Truth
Ellsworth Oracle
Cannondale Scalpel 4
Fisher Caliber
Fisher HiFi Deluxe
Any other bikes I should ride?

Are you looking for just a frame? Or is that for full build?
Out of the choices you gave, Blur XC. Off the menu, Ibis Mojo, Turner Flux, or Titus Racer-X.

The ellsworth truth is a sick bike so is the epiphany.
I love SC bikes though. My brother has a superlight. Beat the hell out of it and it's still ticking.

I know you like smaller bike companies, but the Specialized Epic would probably be a great bike for you. You'd have to test ride one obviously, but it's a fantastic bike.

Try to get the Blur man. I have a Superlight myself, but my little brother works at a shop in Davis and I got to try out a Blur for a couple rides. They're really, really nice.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am looking for a full build, not just the frame.
I'm not really interested in specialized due to poor experiences with their build quality and customer service in the past.
* The Yeti is way out of my price range.
* So is the Ibis Mojo, Turner, and Titus.
* I cant find any review of the Solid - makes me nervous

You probably already know this, but www.mtbr.com is another great source of info (both the reviews section and the forums).
