So my car wont start.
here's what happened I was driving and my car suddenly shut off on me at a stop sign. I got my car towed to my parents house.
When I checked what was wrong. I realize there was a small piece of metal touching my starter which shorted my battery and starter.
I bought a new battery first and then got my alternator test which was still good.
then tested my starter which was bad so i changed it With a used one. I got it tested and passed fine.
put it in my car and i hear the motor spinning in my starter but not popping out and cranking my flywheel.
so i check the starter fuse and its still good i even changed it with a new one.
then i got a voltage meter and checked all my currents.
I get a drop from 12.6v to 8v at the starter I know 8v isnt enough to crank the starter motor properly.
Could it possibly the solenoid in the starter? or the wiring from the battery terminal? if anyone has experience this or has any info on what i can do please pm me or respond in the thread. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
ps
I checked all the grounds they are clean. And I have a 2005 STI 6speed in my car.

but anyone else has any ideas?
I dunno, too bad you probably can't get it towed to LIC, Adam is the master at this type of thing. My car wouldn't start after washing it, then it charged up and finally 2-3 days later kicked on?? Wtf?? but then died? Then I got it started and it was in limp mode. Towed it to novato with no app., adam figured it out in like 5 mins, the cam position sensor had gotten snapped a long time ago, just the clip......and water had gotten in there. Crazy! Point of story the guy has a 6th sense and its for subies.

Sounds totally like the solenoid is not working correctly. It could be that its 1) Stuck on the in position 2) The solenoid's bad or 3) Not getting enough juice to put it to the out position.
You can try tapping on it with a small hammer and then giving it a crank (or tapping while cranking) and see if that works. Either way if it is the solenoid you're probably going to have to put in another starter/solenoid.
Also make sure its in the right angle to hit the flywheel, it might not me tight enough?
You should also check your fusible links (the big 100A + fuses that don't look like regular ones) I'm not sure how they are on subaru's but in toyotas they're bolted in.

Sup Hubert, Good luck with your car, but I agree with the solenoids, and the fuses getting checked out. This similar thing happened with my celica back in the day.

No lights, not one bit of power - that's comparable to the master breaker switch in your house - you flip that, EVERYTHING goes dark.
I'd wonder about the gear connection the starter has with the flywheel - if you're mixing and matching starters and transmissions, maybe your used starter isn't the right one for the job.
