i voted for #3 however that is not the most accurate for me.
for me its moreso if its good and original, or simply jsut plain good.
If its cheezy pop and is good, its fine with me. It dosesnt have to necassarily be complicated, but just good. If i can feel the emotional content that the artist is expressing, and not feel like he/she is faking it, im sold.
sampling is fine, as long as it makes it better, not worse, and as long as they arent trying to call it original. (ie:kanye west, nothing he does is original, but he calls it so.)
if you aer closed minded or only open to one genre you immidately loose all credibility in my book. If you are to be called a musical genius, or even a producer/artist, you better like ALL kinds of music, and be well versed in them, or atleast be open to listening to it .

I say #3... After playing and preforming Classical Music and I have to say that classical is the REAL essence of musical genius.
For me it is the Ritardos, the Crescendos, the accelerandos, and the chords and the featurs and solos and solis. (I know half that is misspelled.)

Ima go with 1 and 3 also. But another big part of being a great musician is being able to deliver the same kind of performance live. Ima big fan of incubus and if uve ever seen them live, its just like listening to a cd.
