Well the last one I heard was less then a 22. so yes its less loud. But thats a hell of a reduction.

But a class 3 lets me own a much larger selection of firearms. So I can't go wrong any which way....

 

What kind of can are you talking about? I've seen some .50's with various types of cans, including a wet can and all were still pretty loud. Loud enough to need hearing protection. I can shoot .22LR's all day without hearing protection (as long as it's shot from a rifle and not a pistol).

 

I am not sure of the specs on it. but the ones I have seen were no ear plugs needed.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. AAC had some .50BMG suppressors and they reduced the sound down to that of a .308 unsuppressed.

A 5.56 M4 with a can is still louder than a .22lr unsuppressed, so there's no way a .50 is going to be quieter than that.

 

As long as the round (almost any caliber) is supersonic its not going to be quieter than a .22.

I'd imagine that in order to reduce the sound of a .50BMG round to where it was on par with a .22 you'd have to build a suppressor 20 feet long.

 

The look on that guys face was priceless... I think that kick had him at hello..

My only worry is send up red flags on sending in the paperwork. ATF, Ehhh this guy wants to quiet down one of his BMG's?

 

I gottaa dig it up but I have seen a video of a bmg being fired and it was super quiet. And no one had ear plugs on. They even made a point of telling views of it. Might have been on one of the last sons of guns shows. Right at the end.

Super heavy gun + small caliber round = no recoil.
