Had this same issue with my swap. Turns out I mixed up the front and rear axles at some point. The rears will go in the front but not seat all the way. Wasn't paying attention, buttoned everything up and started pouring in expensive gear oil and watching it pour onto the ground. Didn't figure it out until I looked at the abs rings and realized they were completely different.
I feel your pain on the swap. It's been over 3 months of finding out I need more parts/waiting on parts. Now that its all done I find out the wheels I bought need spacers to clear the sti calipers that I was trying to avoid buying LOL. Grabbed some wheel spacers and promptly stripped a wheel stud. Going out tomorrow to grab some extended studs.
Just yesterday I was inches from burning the whole thing to the ground. I was trying to thread the bolt for the parking cable and abs wire brackets and couldn't get it started because the fuel lines were in the way. Damn fuel lines chewed the skin off my knuckles.
Finally after beating the **** out of my recycling can with a baseball bat, I re-approached the (insert multiple expletives here)ing bolt I used a few tools to get a good angle on it and finally got it threaded.
Stick it out. Little **** like this will drive you crazy, but eventually you'll set it straight. Everything can be solved with either time or money. It always seems you either have no time and all the money, or no money and all the time in the world.

Okay so im kinda stumped by this right now

The axle on the left is the one that fit, the one on the right is the little ***** axle, is that a rear axle? I'm looking up axles online and they all look pretty much like the one on the right does with the taper at the end as you can see by the one on the left, its flush all the way down.

I have a pair of used 05+ axles and the oil seals needed (new in bag) to convert the tranny to accept them. If you're interested shoot me a text at (415)350-4784

So it turns out the one that fits is actually a FEMALE axle with a tranny stub stuck in it, it fits perfect, circlips and all, but can I run this till I can get my 2nd axle ? my axles are special order at every autoparts store.
