he ran iirc around a 13.4-13.6..but keep in mind if you were there that the track was hot, he couldnt get much traction and he just got the car so he was just getting used to racing it of course.

heheh, yeah. But you've heard the saying, Never be gentle in a rental!

You actually have to worry about negative repercussions of launching/abusing/doing donuts in your STi all day, whereas with the mustang...................

It's a good thing Hertz has to pick up the tires. I'd *still* rather (ab)use a focus for 1/6th the price at a trackday and not worry about mileage caps.

ROFL!

There are a couple of rally teams that drive down to SoCal to participate in ITN rallies that rent cars for that purpose.

Yup. On the Mustang special edition it is more for dress-up. For track cars it helps secure the hood. It is also a convenience thing. I had a Fiesta that I used to track race back in England. It was normal to put pins on all four corners because it meant you could quickly release the entire hood and remove it from the car in a couple of seconds. Furthermore, the rules permitted raising the rear of the hood for additional cooling, so we had stand-offs on the rear pins.
