AWD Dynos other than Vishnu in the Bay Area
I was there this morning and the first guy that opened the shop bay door stated "We can give your a dyno base-line but we can't dyno-tune your WRX Wagon cuz our tuner is on vacation." So I looked around and left.
I don't need more cowbell dammit!

I wanted to get it Tuned. I really could careless about the HP/TQ numbers. From what I've read, each make/brand dynamometer would put out different numbers on the same car. I wish MPJ had a AWD dyno. From what I experienced today, it looks like the bay area could use a 3RD OPTION.

El Supremo ... sorry to hi-jack your personal thread ... I just felt that it was necessary to educate those that think dyno results are absolutes.
I'm sure there are plenty of great tuners out there. Since I wanted the convenience of DUAL maps ... 91 and 94 octane ... or low and high boost ... I naturally wanted to go with an EcuTek ... and Shiv has a lot of experience with those. I've learned that it often pays to go with what I've researched out as one of the best. I live in the Los Angeles area ... but waited until I could go to Vishnu to have a dyno tune.
I've found a lot of tuners to be down on other peoples products ... hey they're trying to make a living selling their gear ... and they might have good reasons to be down on a particular product. I'd want to find out why they feel the way they do. As you know there are problem products out there ....
Yes the initial cost was very expensive, $800 ... but Shiv doesn't get all of that ... a chunk goes to EcuTek in licensing fees. I didn't feel that the $300 that Shiv charged me for 1.5 hours of concentrated tuning work on his dyno was too much ... considering I also thought I was going to be charged a re-map fee. He didn't even charge me for the couple of gallons of 100 octane we needed to bring up my 91 octane to 94 octane. And the test drive afterwards was thrilling and informative!
I now have a 91 octane map with boost peaking at about 16 psi ... and a 94 octane map for AutoX'ing and drag racing that peaks at 17.4 psi ... switchable on the fly ...

multiple Dyno Dynamics results by 1.4 to get corrected crank HP,

I understand the dyno tuning process and I'm glad your happy with Shiv. Again, personally I have nothing against him. I just think of Hawaii as a place one goes to play and I think it's great he's "sacrificing" the next in two weeks of his life in the Aloha State for the mutual benefit of all us euthusists. We should give him a round of applause for this self-less act. I just wonder if he'd be willing to go to Frozen ***, Alaska in the winter or the Death Valley Tuners "Conference" in the summer to acquire the same knowledge and wisdom he's now receiving in Maui.
I was talking to the parts guy at Ron Price the other day when i went to buy grommets.....and he said they have a dyno there now? Didn't have time to peek as i was in a hurry but that gets a big
out of me.
out of me.
guy also said they dynoed an STi on there.......so i guess it should be AWD
but ofcourse if he was lying, then it could have been a drum with a whole bunch of hamsters inside running in the opposite direction of the wheel to find hamster power, and then converted to horse power by measuring how many hamsters it takes to drag a horse running in the opposite direction. (it makes no sense, but bear with me here)

their dyno is for smog purposes only. as you all know, all smog inspections from here out will be conducted under load on a dynamometer. four wheel dynos aren't required yet, but will be in a couple years. instead, they just give us a more comprehensive "non-dyno" sniffer and visual inspection. oh yeah, and i'm pretty sure there are plans for another bay area tuner to have a dyno installed in the relatively near future. should be interesting to say the least.

I have dyno charts to prove it too....I got like 240 on Shivs dyno..("the best he could do")...then my base run at ATP... with shiv's tuning... I got 230. They are SUPPOSED to have a higher reading dyno.
Then to top it off, with just about 10-15 min. of tuning I GAINED almost 15whp. with more to go...And Shiv said I couldnt get anymore!! But ofcourse we all know how I feel about him now...so I wont say anymore
EXCEPT....call the guys at www.I-speedusa.com first. I have seen a few of the "vishnu" cars go there to get tuning issues resolved! Save yourself some trouble...I wish I listened the first time. -freddie
Yeah, it seems I've heard a lot of opinions regarding Shiv.
No one doubts the quality of his work, some people just feel like he should "stop jacking people" with his prices.
Personally, I'm going there for advice, and most likely a dyno tuning session when I get all my mods in order since he's got a good rep for that and I'm willing to pay for quality, but I don't know about dropping my money on his staged services outright.

1WRX2NV ... interesting what you say about the dyno out put ... but Shiv will not give you maximum HP ... only SAFE relable and drivable maximum HP.
btw. Who tuned Scoobydudes engine that recently blew up ....
Shiv is entitled to charge whatever the market can bear ... it's the American way. He's entitled to go on vacation in Hawaii whenever he wants. He's not here as a Friend of Suby owners (of course he drives an Evo 8 now anyway, says it's more of a drivers car ... and if you've ever driven with him ... you can see his point). He's very busy ... if his prices were cheaper ... he might be totally overloaded.
As it is ... you have to be lucky or plan carefully to actually have him be there to personally tune your ECU. That means people value his work enough that he's in constant demand ... elsewhere. Which means he's entitled to charge more for his work ....
He's not our buddy ... he's a successful businessman ... and you shouldn't want it any other way ...
