Did anyone read the article on the new sti a while back??? about how it was good the direction it went in and how "sti didnt make its name as a track car".........lol the guy who wrote the article was obviously a journalist not a car guy...........the worst subie article i've ever read. Does he even know what an sti is? the comments he makes are just insane.

He's right on one point

That you apparently don't get;

The STI is a RALLY car, not a track car, there is a difference.

He was speaking about how it did not make its name as a track focused car but implying it was a daily driver regular car.

Also I don't think you'd try and argue with me that the sti made its name as a track car in the us, not a rally car. How many people do you see on iwsti rallying their cars vs. tarmac tracking them???? hmmmmmmmmm nice try tho......

Also in his article track is mainly implying racing, he doesn't say what type. Read the article you douchebag......

and go argue semantics somewhere else pud

Petes right, the STI did make its name originally as a rally car, I dont even see how you can disagree with that.
He was just pointing that out, not trying to flame you.
You need to relax.

Unfortunately how the sti made its name originally isn't the topic of discussion. sorry.
Ok well, I said the sti mades it mark in the US as far as sales and people buying them up. I'm talking about sales, not about how people came to hear of the impreza in the first place....and obviously he was flaming me by saying it how he did, trying to disagree with that is retarded.

I didn't see people buying the sti's in the us to rally them, i saw them doing it to track them on tarmac.

Obviously I wouldn't disagree that the car came about how it did as a rally car.
I'm relaxed plenty, just get sick of people posting up stupid **** when I was trying to see if anyone else was alarmed by this article and its sweeping generalizations on the sti.

From a 08 STi owner I met at Laguna Seca early this month, he said it understeered everywhere. He owned a GD wagon before the STi. He was about 1 sec slower than his buddy with a stock '05 on crappy tires. They were out on some dirt before the event and he loved the car on dirt.

The '08 STi is less "raw" than the previous models. It's not a track car, maybe it will be with the right suspension mods. My '04 didn't really handle well until I did the sways and coilovers to dial the understeer out.

As for the article, I think they are refering to a stock STi. Some cars are made for the track when they come out of the factory, ie lotus exige. The STi as a general is a good all around car that handles well in everyday driving.

I agree with ya, but automobile tried to say essentially the sti hadn't made its name in the us for raw perf. which is wrong imo.

Yeah, i've been arguing with the guys on sti forum about 08's.......i mean personally for me the problem with them is the cost increase.......

the car was not redesigned in its original spirit. Thats my problem

You can't blame the price increase on Subaru. Blame the US Dollar.

I thought the STI made it's name in the US because it was a 300hp Subaru? That actually got people's attention 4 years ago.

yep my point exactly, it was ripping and has become a favorite track car/enthusiast car............because it had mass bang for the bucks. I feel I can attest to this being on my 2nd one, logged almost 50k on the first.

anyways my point in the start was for people who had read the article and thought it was insane.

I know of more people rallying STI's -especially in the US and Canada than pretty much any other car built in the last 10 years, the only other model that even comes close is the Evo.

The WRX/STI has always- since their inception been built as Subaru's rally homologation special, most track series had banned AWD since the 80's when Audi Quattros came on the scene.

Only in the last couple of years have racing series begun to allow AWD back on the tracks, and that has not been a big target demographic for Subaru, whether you want it to or not.

Say what you want, I really wasn't trying to start a flame war, just pointing out that the statement that "the STI didn't make its name as a track car" is pretty much spot on accurate, saying that the STI is one of the all time fantastic track cars like the M3 or the Lotus Elise would be outright silly.

That's all.

Oh and I do agree that Automobile magazine is a waste of money, I dropped my sub years ago, so I don't need some crybaby whining about how much it sux and at the same time telling me I should go buy one to read an article in it

That is really all.

ok, well sorry for being lame about it. I agree the sti is not the greatest track car, but I do feel people really began buying up the 04's and 05 and a lot see the track....i really feel it made a large impact for sales in the us and was a reason for many purchasers. I would say there is a much higher ratio of stis tracked than m3. That many people buy the evos and the sti for that and that really made it what it was, and why there were so many more 06's and more 05's than 04. Sti really got buyers because its its crazy power and fat brakes that could withstand some track use.........a car that can be taken to the track stock by most drivers...

yes the article was trash the guy made some other very incorrect statements about the sti......just a terrible article i was outraged.
