At the last Auto-X I attended (and only in my WRX), I was fairly unhappy with how early the ABS kicked in... I think I've read that some folks disable it in the fuse box for auto-x, but when I took a quick look the other day I didn't see an ABS fuse. Anyone here have a quick tip for me?
Which module controls the ABS? Is it the ECU or is there a specific ABS controller? If the latter, are there other WRX models that use a better one and can it be swapped out? (I have an '03.)

well I dont know if this is relevant but how well did he do at the last event cause I think it could be more driver than abs? (slamming the brake, braking way late or way early)
Sorry for not answering the question

Sorry. Haha. I think the early WRX'es had some ABS issues. I think to a point where Subaru will fix it if you want it to. Word is that the ABS on the non-STi models really suck and that most people just disable it. I drove someone's WRX and the ABS wasn't too hot, at least in my opinion. I don't have ABS, so... it doesn't really affect me.
I didn't know it was that bad. What is it exactly that the ABS is doing that is not working right?
If the dealership fixes it for free then by all means bring it to a dealership. I don't know much about Subarus, but some cars have less than ideal ice-modes in their ABS programming. Might be the same thing going on with your WRX. So depending on where the ABS computer is housed, swapping in the newer hardware without changing the ABS programming won't fix it.

That's a fair question. I'm certainly not an expert, but I have been autocrossing off and on for 20 years in lots of cars, and I couldn't help but think that the ABS was kicking in too early in my WRX. Of course, I've read on here before that some people disconnect theirs, so maybe it was the power of suggestion... I'd *rather* leave it connected, but it would interesting to try some brake tests with it disconnected to compare. Doing some auto-x runs with it off would certainly give me neg. feedback if it is driver error! Even better would be if I could upgrade the system somehow...
I know my STI's ABS system hates when the car gets light. I've flown off the course several times now at Monster Park lol. I don't know about the WRX, but Gilbert in the DSP 2.5rs pulles his ABS fuse and likes it that way. You can try contacting him for more information. Also, what kind of tires are you using? My street tires lockup way easier than my autox tires, due to grip of course

I'm using street tires: Nitto Invos. It sounds like I'll just try pulling the ABS fuse and see how I like it. Worse case, I kill a few more cones!
Never had ABS issues with my former '04 when autocrossing. I think it only kicked in once or twice through the 3 years of racing and that was only when I slammed hard and was about to go off course and hit cones.
It must be driver or early WRX issues.

I was checking out the SCCA site and the Sunday event in Oakland expressly states: SCCA Members Only (you MUST show a valid membership card); Memberships NOT avaliable on site. (http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results...nd01_info.html)
So what's the dealio? I was hoping to get a weekend pass and put that $15 toward an annual if I like the event, as Darkonion recommended, but the SCCA site isn't agreeing with that philosophy too well.

Hmmm. I think you should be okay for a weekend membership. Let me see if I can check with someone, because I don't see why they wouldn't do weekend membership.
BTW, do annual SCCA licenses run 1 year from purchase, or do they expire on 12/31 regardless? I race bikes and cycling licenses always expire 12/31, which is a ripoff if you only race late season.
