Audio from the Monterey Historics
Grabbed a little during the Trans-Am class on Saturday
I was hoping to get some of the Masser MP-12 going 143MPG under the bridge, but it wasn't to be

Nice! The Historics are always a favorite of mine.
For race 6A my son and I were in the starting line grandstands near the tower. For race 7A (Trans Am) we hiked up to the corkscrew and Rainey curve for some pics (See 2nd half of my Flickr album)

Did you see the crash in race 5A where the Mustang went into the wall between turn 3 & 4? Glad he was able to walk out but the car took some pretty bad damage.

It was the Monza that won the morning race and was leading the afternoon race until this happened:

I stand corrected it was the Monza. He was flying too during that second race.
The most suprising race for me was 3A (GT cars 1955-1962) where the white 1.3L Alfa Romeo SZ won. That little car was amazing (and very loud).

Yikes you were close. We saw it from turn 5. Looks like the tire went over the fence.

My brother was surprised to see his old boss (when they both worked for Toyota Corp) there with his 427 Cobra in 4A (#96). He was flying in the AM, but something happened in the afternoon when he was in 2nd or 3rd.

The video doesn't show the tire attacked 1 guys 3 times, he had to keep dodging it. I was impressed with his life preservation skills. The BOUNCES simply were not done justice in the video. It was the scariest **** I've ever seen happen there in all my years.
Greatest part was idiot announcer who didn't know what happened and decided to give a run down and that "the tire came to rest in a safe place", my ***.

Damn - I heard it happened, but I didn't realize it was right on top of the grandstands.
I was in the bleachers on the main straight when it happened. Saw the dust cloud

Agreed. They essentially had the track to themselves during the lunch break and the sounds bounced off the hills.
btw - uploaded a few more pics from turn 5 looking toward turn 4 where the Monza and a few other cars had some near misses.
