Atwater National Tour

Well.....

It was an interesting weekend

Torrential Rains on Friday morning (with 30+ MPH winds) but actually dried up Friday afternoon for the practice course. Car initially was still pushing on the Atwater concrete (which grips...well!) but a quick camber change to full negative (about -2.75° with my settings) in front and the resulting toe-out change (which helps turning) made the car turn quite a bit better!

The course laid out was FAST FAST FAST! I was bumping rev limiter a few times in 2nd (about 65 MPH). That's what you get for having a CP driver (Frank Stagnaro) design your course

On Saturday morning, we ran 1st run group. It rained...a LOT....on Friday night. However, it QUIT raining about 8:45AM....and our run group started at 9AM. So, our first day runs were under, ummm, "changing" conditions (as the track dried out) to say the least! Unfortunately, I was SLOW on the first run and ALMOST spun on BOTH of my last 2 runs (didn't spin, but lost major time in the "recovery"....almost spun but in a different spot on each run) so I was pretty much out of it after day 1 .

On Sunday, it was the same course (with minor mods) run backwards. We got lucky and it was DRY. I was once again slow on the first run. Second run was a lot better, and third run slowed down a little (pushed too hard).

Results are HERE in nicely-formatted pdf format or HERE in badly formatted HTML.

So, I had fun! But I definitely need to figure out how to get more rubber under the car without hitting fenders or coilovers. Being the heaviest car in class (along with the other wagon....the Proteges and M3s were easily 400 or so lbs lighter) and on the narrowest tires (215/45R16) didn't help . Also still need to work on getting smoother...

it was definitely fun out there, but i have to mod my car more to be more competitive...more power. the first day, i was having fuel starvation problems and lifting a rear wheel in the hard corners so the car hesitated a little when powering out. the second day, i was still lifting a rear wheel even though i adjusted my suspension a little. however, the car did not push at all. it was quite twitchy.

i had a spectacular off on sunday. i slid a 180 on a kink just before the finish.

i still have to thank subydude for letting me use his race tires. they stuck like crazy compared to mine.

so how does the subaru contingency work?

Not sure how any Subaru (or tire) contingencies work for Solo2. I know I didn't place well enough to be worrying about it just yet
