the caddle and meat industries are about as currupt as oil and politics.

purchasing free range eggs/chicken and organic meats helps.

To start out with....I hate PETA. I think they ARE mostly *********. And I eat meat. And I have seen slaughterhouse videos, as well as BEEN to 2. They aren't even close to the same depiction in the videos as real life.

Having said that, where do you get this info that Ingrid E. Newkirk does quite well? She makes like 36K a year. In general, 85% of their donations go to direct assistance programs....by comparison to most 501c3 orgs, they do pretty well in that regard. Whether their programs are effective is another story, but claiming they make money for anyone simply isn't borne out byt he financial statements.

They are a KNOWN domestic terrorist group and basically a political front for making money. The woman that started peta and anyone else that has gotten in on it has made a TON of money. You should see their annual reports....laughter. They spend more money on killing animals than they actually do on saving them. They are responsible for more deaths per capita than pretty much any non peta animal shelter. awesome.

They are extremist and use extremist videos and editing. Most of the stuff you see is the worst of the worst and no longer the norm if it ever was. It does happen but not everywhere and not all the time. A lot of effort has gone into making destruction more humane...as much as that can be. it's a gross and sad industry worth a lot of money. If I could afford it and it was possible for me I'd support nothing but small farms and organic produce. But I can't.

Fast Food Nation is a great book for more than just the slaughterhouse stuff. I haven't eaten at McD's or the like for prolly 7 years now and didn't plan to anyway, but still.. Granted I dunno where my fav burger joint gets their beef and to be honest it hasn't crossed my mind.

I only eat animals that were killed in a nice way. Whatever the hell that means... I tried to think about how I would want to be killed and I dunno what I would prefer. I never really wanted to get stabbed or anything like that, but hey - if you know you gotta go, why not make it exciting! (j/k of course)

But seriously, places like Whole Foods and PW Markets have organic and supposedly humanely killed beasties to snack on. We have compared prices between Safeway and were shocked to find that we were not paying much more to shop at Whole Foods for most things, and the difference in quality (IMHO) is huge.

My sister did a paper whilst at Chico on slaughterhouses and such and has been a vegetarian since. Myself, I like to eat things that have eyes.

What is this "Zoeb" you speak of - some new and strange meat delicacy? Can you get it at any butcher? How many grams of fat per serving?

I eat things that have eyes, however this is not to say I would eat anything simply based on the fact that it has (or had) eyes.

Yeah, it's wierd that I can't stand people that mistreat thier pets or poaching wild animals... but I have no problem with killing cows and pigs for meat? It's like they're taking a hit for the team without even knowing it.

Ok, I wasn't gonna say anything but I can't help myself. I am a vegetarian (working on being vegan because the dairy industry just promotes the meat industry) and I don't care if people do or don't eat meat, it's your choice. However, what you have to understand is, even if you treat one set of animals in an inhumane way it promotes the idea that animals are worthless and put solely on the planet for people to do whatever they want to them. I agree that some slaughterhouses do a better job than others, but even if the worst of the worst only happens "sometimes" the fact that it happens ever is ridiculous. Also, animal rights organization are not just concerned with stock animals, but all animals. One of the main goals of these organizations is to stop animal testing, which is done mostly to our beloved dogs, rabbits, cats, and monkeys. And if you don't like PETA, try taking a look at ALF (http://www.animalliberationfront.com/), but they are hard as nails, real "terrorists", they blow **** up. Anyway, just my two cents, take it, leave it, but as consumers, at least know what your purchases are doing to the well being of animals.
