If you find someone breathing down your back fender when you drive below the speed limit GTFO of the left lane!!!!

"If they want to get in the right-hand lane and drive 55 mph on the highway, there is no restriction on that," said Jim Baxter, president of the National Motorists Association, a group that formed in 1982 to repeal national speed limits. "They are welcome to do that."
But Speier said those who drive below the speed limit often find themselves "with someone breathing down your back fender." A national maximum speed limit would reduce the pace of traffic and result in greater fuel savings, she said.

I leave for work around 6 A.M. I do 60 mph in the 2nd lane from the right the entire way. I average about 29 miles to the gallon. The drive home is a different story.

The answer isnt found on the freeway, it is found on the city streets in stop signs.
Stop signs are only good when a small street links to a big street, they are not neccisary at all for small to small streets.
car's mpg reduces by at least 1/4 in the city, so technically if we didnt have to stop at all, we would save 1/4 of gas use in cities. But if we cut stopping in half, we would save 1/8 of gas use which is still a big savings.
Ask people to go 55 and it wont happen, ask them to not stop but still be cautious and that will happen. And dont tell me pedestrians will be hit, they shouldnt be on the street unaware. I skateboard thru traffic in SF, and if i get hit i know its my own fault. Thats why the pedestrian is never at fault rule has to change too.
We need to adobt the idea of roundabouts and get rid of signals too.
but Americans are apparently stupid when it comes to thinking... so there.

I completely agree
if you get run over because you can't watch where you're going and are careless because you assume you have the right of way...you deserve it
Even IF i know it wont be my fault, I am not gonna test my luck against a 3000lb piece of metal

With that said I am with Kyle on the less stops. It takes so much more fuel to get the car rolling again once it has to stop. That is why hybrids exist with electric motors to get them rolling, then gas once they are going. I also think they need to work on the timing of traffic lights. I don't like having to stop at every single light along major throughfairs (SP) just to have to start rolling again 30 seconds later...
I also agree with the if you get hit crassing traffic cause you were a dumb *** and have the "right of way". I still say its your fault for the most part. that is why cross walks exist. to all those peices of poop that jay walk and take their darn sweet time (purposly waking slower to impead traffic)... I would hit your dumbass if it wouldn't mess up my car. I am a cyclist, and I know if I get hit while riding on the street its cause I was not paying enough attention to the retards around me.
45mph is the minimum you can go on the freeway, but only in the right lane. I was actually unfortunate enough to carpool with someone who drove super slow on the freeway, and she got popped for it one morning. She got it for "obstruction of the flow of traffic" and was yelled at by CHP for it. The CHP Officer said, "Do you think that all those people were all cutting you off because they like you? If you want to go 45 - 50mph, then don't get on the freeway. Or go ride a bicycle if you want to save on fuel. BART is usually on time, and they'll drive fast so that you don't have to. Don't you remember your driver's ed class where the instructor told you that you are to follow the flow of traffic? If people are going too fast for you, get in the slow lane. But if people in the slow lane are overtaking you, get off the freeway. Are we clear?" I don't remember the fine that she got, but that is one of few instances where I actually agreed with CHP.
As for Jackie Speier... that woman is on one. I'd actually rather have the freeways in America like they have it on the Autobahn. No speed limit. But the general rule of thumb is fast cars on the left, slow cars to the right. Reducing the speed would primarily save people with huge trucks or SUVs on money anyway... something like $400 - $500 per year. PER YEAR?! Really? But those of us with 4 bangers would only see something like $120 - $180 per year! Ooooh!! I'm so excited that I'll save 2 fill ups at the pump for the whole year... Yippee! (sarcasm) Lowering the speed limit is fkn dumb. If that does happen, that just doubles the time people will be on the road, and wasn't that the whole reason for raising the fkn speed limit? Slow speeds equal traffic jams. So is she saying she misses traffic jams? WTF?!

i had to pick up a computer desk for my room last night, so i was in a truck, and i chose to set cruise at 55...OMFG i wouldn't be surprised if i saw a Kenyan running past me on the shoulder! It was like 11:30pm so i didn't care if people had to pass me. And i dont care about passing others, i respect their decision to go as slow as 50, as long as its not commute hour and their in the right lane.
Also many intersections can be redesigned, like when you want to make a U-turn, you can basically run the red and not harm anyone because it doesnt involve you entering the intersection. You have to enter the crosswalk, but all they have to do is cut a thingy in the median. And put a sign up that says Uturn on red only. ANd if its green, then you cant use the cut out and you would Uturn as we've always done it.
I constantly ran stop signs yesterday driving the truck around. I figured if a cop sees me and follows me, he will pull me over at 15 mph. I would rather cruise down a residential area at 15mph and roll thru the stop signs than drive 25 and make complete stops, and im sure the police would respect that and allow that, but there are too many bad apples that would eventually F it up.
My GF will walk into a street and cross without looking, because she says she has the right of way. When i was in Las Vegas, this stupid menopausal B walked right in front of a taxi lane by the strip and said "i dare ya" and made like 5 taxis have to stop. That means her B *** just wasted about a cup of gas for each Crown Vic. All because she had the right of way.

45 is too slow on the freeway, I agree with that. I think CHP should be handing out more impeding the flow tickets it is much more dangerous to be doing 65 in the left lane while people are passing on the right than it is to be doing 80 in the left lane without slower traffic in front of you, at least in certain conditions. Ive yet to see a study that proves that speed kills, speed might be a factor, but it is usually stupidity that kills, not speed.
