No DON'T just switch it out, BUY YOUR OWN.

D-link and Linksys both make good ones, I am partial to the D-link because it has a 100mb out and the linksys is only a 10mb out.

I'm using a Motorola SB5101 or something. It's supports 30Mbps upstream, but I don't think Comcast gives me that much bandwidth.

I got it a few years back at Circuit City for $25, after rebate. Seems like Comcast pushes the firmware updates and I wonder if they're purposely doing this. I don't have any problems as long as there aren't any torrents running.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Comcast was way too expensive for the channels that I wanted, so I went with DirecTV and have been very happy. Comcast for internet alone was extremely expensive, so I got AT&T for DSL.

I have had SBC/ATT DSL since the day it was available up here. Decent prices (that have been getting better as competition arrives) I have N-E-V-E-R had a reliability issue, I no longer have to have phone service to have DSL, and the speed is consistent and fast.

So phone service is not required for dsl?? im paying like $58 a month and half of that is the phone service which I don't use.

How do you get it for that little? I just checked up on Comcast. The first 6 months is $19, then it jumps to $42-$59 (depending on zip). In addition, to qualify for the $19 intro, you HAVE to have voip or cable at their regular rates ($40 and $78 respectively).

Obviously, you can get the intro triple play from $100, but even that is an intro. rate.

i love powerboost.
comcast was smart, laying all the fiber when they did.
so much more bandwidth possibilities when compared to the small ISP's that only have old pacbell POTS.
Im hoping google comes in and blasts 1gb to all of us.
Then i'd never leave my house

Usually after 6 months if the offer is still there, you can call them and sign another contract for another 6 months for 19/mo. or at least that what the representative let me do...

My only problem with the whole 1gb idea, is there is no way you will get the full bandwidth. Right now there are no companies that make a router/DSU-CSU that is capable of that kind of speed, under about $4000 or so.

So lets say you get one of the nice high end SOHO linksys routers. Even they only have 100mb outputs, and can only deal with about that across the backplain. So on the off chance you have 5 users in the house all hitting the pipe at the same moment, your best flow will be 40-50mb to the users per clock tick.

Seriously though, didn't we have a thread about this topic recently?
I love my Comcast at home.

bump...

had a great experience with att support today for the first time ever... looks like they have switched to home sourced agents instead of ones in india... service was great and she sounded like my grandma... kept calling me "deary".

beat the pants off any service provide support i had ever dealt with previously... of course, this is the first time in 20+ calls to ATT i had gotten a decent rep... so who knows
