Gagan, I agree that F1 drivers are incredibly fit and go through a lot of physical stress during a race, but the most athletic sport is swimming, by faaaaar. michael phelps is probably one of the most fit athletes on earth. His level of training is INSANE and his diet is even more insane (consuming more then 15,000 calories a day!).
I didn't consider Phelps until I thought about what you said (I just didn't think of him because I was thinking of main stream sports), but if we used the criteria that you mentioned, I think he'd be one of the top contenders as top athlete as he has done soooooo much for swimming and earned our nation many gold metals and unreal world records... He reminds me of Ivan Drago from Rocky (Russian boxer)... He's a friggin machine!
Regardless of who is the althlete of the year, it's def not Tiger Woods... I don't know how he can even be considered athlete of the year with guys like Phelps, Armstrong, and Bryant in the running.

I think the forums are lacking in golf fans. To put it simply, Tiger Woods has been the most dominate athlete in golfs history. No one has won as much as him in as short of time as he has. No one is even close to his win record.
Winning 14 major championships
PGA Player of the Year 10 times
PGA Tour Player of the Year 9 times
PGA Tour Money Leader 9 times
Vardon Trophy 8 times
Byron Nelson Award 9 times
FedEx Cup Champion 2007, 2009.
Not to mention his 2000 US open championship when he won by 15 strokes.. 15!!
IMO the only one even in the same category of his dominance was Roger Federer or Michael Schumacher.
All that being said Tiger's reputation will never be the same after this crap. I have definitely lost a lot of respect for him.

Ditto on nobama. Heck if he could win a Nobel prize. In fact there was a written campaign for him to win the heisman... Lol
seriously though, lance Armstrong made the comebacks of comebacks. If you read his book, "it's not about the bike" you'll see what had to go through just to get back on the saddle.
