I love em. I don't have a system to play them on. If possible play them all back to back. Normally don't take to long to beat if you play the story and not the side missions

Exactly, to get the story, you should start with 1 for sure. There is a common theme to them all even though they all take place in different era's. But if you go through doing mostly just the main story missions, not even having to play all the way through, it'll make more sense when you play 3.
