Anyone in SF got DirecTV?

I've got this older DirecTV box which is dead because it missed an important firmware update (it has to do with the Digital Piracy Act). Essentially without the update the box goes into a coma. It needs to sit on someone's sat+phone link for a few hours or possibly over night.

I do not have DirecTV (or any satellite) service. I use the box for getting OTA HD channels. So, I need help from someone who has DirectTV who would be kind enough to let me put my box on their system for a night and we can see if it'll get the update.

I live in the Inner Sunset, anyone near by who doesn't watch TV all night long?

if your having trouble with the box and only want to get over the air HD channels, just get an HD antenna and hook it up directly to ur cable air on your tv.

You didn't read the post, did you?

The box is comatose. I know how to fix it. I just need the help of someone with DirecTV . I already get OTA HD -- using another unit. In fact its the same model that has the updated firmware.

That's right. My neighbor and I put up an antenna on our roof (probably to a higher than legal height ) facing Sutro Tower. Our signal is so good we have 26db of attenuation in there! (Unfortunately, we are completely blocked from Mt. Bruno and can hardly receive NBC11/KNTV's anolog signal...for get HD ). Basically I get 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 7.1,7.2, 9.1 thru 9.5 ,20.1,44.1, and some others like 32,33, 65 (?).

I watch Giants and 9ers games in 90" of 1080i All those KQED-HD/Encore performances, science and nature shows are amazing in HD. Legal and free!

You're TV might just accept and HD video and or cable/sat signal and not have an OTA-HD receiver. Check your manual. If your TV has an ANT-in, it probably will correct interpret OTA ATSC.

You can trek up here to the North Bay if you don't find any takers
