Anyone running Ground Controls?

So my last track day I was feeling like my suspension is getting a bit tired. Beyond the standard upgraded sway bars and braces, I'm running RCE front camber plates, KYB AGXs and H&R springs. The springs are of an unknown spring rate and have been on the car for about 50k, so I'm guessing they're the problem (everything else is relatively new).

I'm thinking about purchasing the Ground Control coilover sleeves and springs (which are made by Eibach). Anyone running these? If so, what are your spring rates and what struts do you run with them? I put mainly highway miles on the car and do about 3-4 track days a year. If anyone recommends another brand of springs, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

How was the track day? Did you get any idea of lap times? I also use the AGX's I bought from Jay. I use the adj collars and 2.5 X 7 springs. 325 in front and 340 in back. These should be plenty for occasional track days and autocrossing in STX.

Was there a particular reason you thought your springs are suspect? Are you comparing your car to someone elses? I would actually start with the tires. What tires did you run?

BTW the springs I do use make daily driving kinda rough.

I was going to run a set of GC coilovers with my Ver.8 STi suspension, but never ended up installing them. My friend has them on his STi and really likes them. I got 500# spring rates all around just like his setup. PM me if you want a set of brand new GC coilovers.

I'm running Koni Yellows + Ground Controls with a 300/275 very conservative setup. Ride is definately easy for daily driving, and still has a bit of understeer.

After driving with this setup, I'd rather go with 300/300 atleast as I know it's easy for a daily driver and I'd like to get a bit less understeer. However, I've seen people having good success with these running much higher rates.

Definitely recommend Ground Controls, due to the adjustability, and cost for having any spring rate you want.

The track day was last Monday at Thunderhill, and the couple of laps that we timed were low 2:20s. I'm running Azenis, which worked fine. As most people know, they heat up quick and tend to get a bit greasy after 10-15 minutes of hard driving. Nothing sketchy, but harder to hold the line.

There are a couple rough areas at T-Hill (the two off-camber right turns, 3 and 6, in particular) where the front of the car would bounce a bit. The dampers were turned up to 4, so i feel like it's the springs getting old and tired. Do you have any suggestions? Appreciate it

I'm running GC on Koni's.

I use swift springs: 390f/440r on a 2760lb GM6.

I run a full GC setup on my sti with custom housings for koni 8611 double adjustable shocks along with their camber plates. Currently running around 500f/600r eibach and hypercoil springs. I really like the GC setup for adjustability, as I keep changing spring rates, and they ride a whole lot better than my zeals ever did.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like there's a pretty wide range of spring rates being used out there (300~ to 500~). I definitely want to err on the side of being too firm since I don't drive on the street too much. Perhaps I'll consider something in joltdudeuc's range (400~)

Bump from the dead! Finally getting some GC coilovers this week. Any more input on suggested spring rates? Looking for them to be pretty stiff, as the car's not a daily driver and I'd rather it be fast on the track than comfortable on the street.

Also, can anyone suggest the best way to trim the lower spring perch on the AGXs?

Thanks.

I started at 400/400 and found that a little harsh for a DD. I'm at 375F/275R on that same DD ('05 wagon) at the moment. Handles nicely paired with 24mm adjustable sways. Ride is firm but not tiring. How much "not a DD" are you talking?

Call Ground Control and ask for input. When I ordered mine, there was a guy that works there that owns a Subaru, he can probably give you good insight ( should have listened to him when I bought mine).

It's hard for me to recommend rates because I can only compare to my daily driver. Just a guess, but I'd look more towards the 500 lb range. However, keep in mind that you need to make sure your AGXs can handle the spring rate or else you'll end up underdampened. I feel like even my Koni Yellows might be maxed out with a 500 lb spring rate, since I'm already at 1.5 turns out of 2 with only a 300lb rate.

Yeah, I've sent an email to the contact at GC asking for their input. We'll see what they say.

As far as Glider's question on how much is the car not a DD, I drive it on the street once or twice a week, mostly short highway trips. The suspension is already pretty stiff, and I certainly wouldn't mind it being even stiffer for the track.

good luck on talking to ground control

Their customer service is next to worthless.

Ground control does make some very good products though, and they are located about 45 minutes north of sac, if your in the mood for a drive.
