Do you have an STi?

SOA reccomends only to use their LSD oil for the rear diff. I have a bottle for 15 picked up

use a fluid that has a LSD modifier in it. don't use the redline gear oil. use their Lightweight Shock Proof. HeavyWeight if you compete etc. in the rear diff... that is if u want to stick with Redline.

I've been running Redline 75w90 fully synthetic gear oil in the rearend of my WRX for 1.5 years or so and have not had any ill effects. It took the "whine" out for a week or so but then it came back. I'd use it again.

Got 19K on mine running Redline 75/90. Have Redline everywhere including 'Water Wetter'.

Me, though mine is an RS. I swear I used one that was suited for LSD, but I cannot remember. I use Redline a lot though I haven't used it in the trans as it's not rated appropriately. In other cars though, I used nothing but - engine, trans, diffy and water wetter.

I have it in my rear diff. No problems. Been to at least 4 auto-crosses and a fair share of "spirited" driving.

Redline 75w90 contains friction modifier for LSD units. I use it in my EVO rear. Shock Proof does not. I do however use ShockProof heavyweight in my Transfer case.

I've been using Redline 75w90 in my car for about 80k miles. Every time I change it the old fluid looks fairly clean. When I first changed out the original fluid at 7.5k miles that stuff came out looking like crap. Every other fluid change the Redline comes out looking clean. Which, implies to me that the gear wear is significantly reduced. FWIW, I change it at every 10-15k miles.

The first change on a car will always look nasty because gears also have a break in period to them.

I'm aware of this. But, I have also done quite a few first rear end fluid changes on my cars as well as others and I have to say that the fluid that came out of the WRX was the dirtiest by far. Or it seamed so at least. It may have been aditives for break in or what not but, the fluid just didn't look right. On my truck, 92 Dakota, I waited till about 40K to change the rear and it came out cleaner than the Subaru's at 7.5k. Been using Redline in that too and now it's up to 170k. I try to change that fluid every 60k or so and haven't had any problems. The limited slip still works great too.

you should pick up Redline lighweight Shockproof or the heavy weight and read the back. it clearly states that it has LSD modifiers to use with LSDs. that's why i used it.

i have a bottle in my trunk and i'll take a pic of it jsut for joo!

EDIT: i may have confused myself. the bottle i have is Redline Lightweight shockproof gear oil. so it is gear oil. no where on there says LSD modifier but it does say this:
(sorry for having a dirty label but u get the idea)

I wouldn't think so. I believe you have the same rearend as us with 5 speeds. Even if it is alittle different, that should be okay.
