I heard on the news last year that CHP was cutting officer jobs and patrols due to budget cuts. But recently, I've been see A LOT more of them on the freeways. Just today on 280 S from SF to Palo Alot, I saw at least 4 of them on the side of the road and 2 were in the process of pulling people over!
Anyone got any clues here???

they're stepping up patrols in certain areas where speeding has become a big problem. Once a month now they're doing "No tolerance" days on I80 between Rocklin and Auburn. They put something like 10 cars to run that 10 mile area and pull people over for even THINKING about speeding..seriously they've cited people for 66 in a 65.

thats gotta suck, but wouldnt a person have a good case if they got a ticket for 66 in a 65..i mean doesnt a radar gun have a +/- factor of about 5 mph?

It may be cynical but maybe they are trying to boost revenue. More tickets = more $$$ ?= CHP keep jobs. Employee incentive plan?
This weekend I saw one motorcycle cop in north Fremont just working one intersection all day. Saturday Sunday and Monday.

not sure. I think they figure most people would fight that ticket, but they're out there citing people to make a point.

Well Huck if you get pulled over by a CHP in that area named Glenn Newcomer. He's a friend of mine. He use to work at Home Depot with me and he drives just as crazy as us off duty.
