Anyone know a good lawyer?

Earlier today I purchased a dog treat from a store, brought it home and later in the day began to feed it to my dog. Thankfully, he only licked it. It had maggots in it.

This was a sealed dog treat from one of the two major pet companies.

brucelee, ish, dcrawford (from nasioc) and I were all sitting around watching a movie when I decided to give my puppy something yummy to chew on. dcrawford and I passed the treat back and forth commenting on the smell and theorizing on the taste (versus the smell it left on my fingers). After a minute of talking about dog treats, we start watching the movie again. I look down to see if my puppy (in my lap) is going to chew on this treat that I'm holding on my lap... That's when I see something move. Jumped up, took treat to better lighting in kitchen. Saw maggots.

Videotaped.
Called the product manufacturer.

*cringe*

Dude, this product is shipped to all major pet stores... :O

I don't know what to do. I'm sure this treat isn't the only one.

while youre at it, why dont you call purina and ask what meat sources they use in their foods the maggots wont seem that bad. Actually though, purina wouldn't be able to tell you, because they dont know/care. You have to understand that until recently (and it has still barely changed) the idea of a dog was something that stayed in the backyard and you threw some "food" at in the morning and evening. Because of this there is no quality/health requirement for pet foods. However, you might get some money out of them as a settlement. Your best bet in the future is to stay away from petsmart/pet co type places. They are in the business for the business aspect, not for the quality of life of the dog. Cheaper food is cheaper because its made with cheaper quality ingredients.

Well, then, I guess they shouldn't wrap it up to look like a gingerbread cookie so that I feel comfortable with moving insect larvae writhing around on something my baby is licking while I'm holding onto it after I was smelling it and shoving it in my friend's face to smell.

Acutally that is wrong about Purina. I have done work for them before and been to one of their plants on numerous occasions and seen the meat in person. It is all labled and has been checked by the FDA. It's not the same quality you get at the butcher shop and it isn't something I would eat but there are standards. Also their factories and equipment are much cleaner and what not than most restaraunts out there.

The only thing that sucked about Purnia is everytime I went there I would get home smelling like dog food.

Don't read this if you have a sensitive stomach...

The Truth About Dog Food

That's why my dog only gets kibble with human-grade ingredients (Innova/California Natural). Same goes for treats. Eff that supermarket garbage!

That really sucks, but why sue them. That reaction is whats wrong with this country. Why don't you call them and tell them what happened and see what they say before you go and get an attorney. If they herk you around then sue them but not as your first course of action. Your dog would eat turds if you'd let him bugs won't kill him.

Not to be a dick, I agree with ftn. Nothing bad happened, you caught it before you dog ate it. Even if your dog did in fact eat it, it probably wouldnt have been hurt. I mean come on, dogs eat their own puke and sh*t. So you are going to get an attorney and possibly sue a company over the POSSIBILITY of something bad happening?

You can thank law-suit happy americans looking to get rich quick (and greedy lawyers) for high prices on everything accross the board. The same goes for why medical care is so much damn money, the amount of liability ins doctors have to carry is insane
