You guys are CRAZY! $1700 for a DECK!? Do you really spend THAT much time in your car? Shouldn't you be DRIVING your car and not watching DVDs and crap?

I'll stick to my sick *** cassette player, thank you very much.

i want the bluetooth feature, and if youve ever entered your car in a show, or have waited in a parking lot for extended periods of time, or if you need to shoot one off before you get to your girls house (J/K) then you could see the benifits of investing a sizeable amount of cash into a HQ deck. not quite that much though...

I was afraid to order from them, because basically they have no contact info about the business.

I recently did the Alpine IVA-W200 in my truck, which is double DIN. This unit should easily install in a Subaru. Quite a bit easier than in the truck actually, as getting around the GM Onstar and Class II databus stuff required some considerable extra hassle...

Price is a lot closer to the D2 than Z1

Downside is it does NOT have built-in Nav, and while Alpine Nav is very good it is also VERY expensive. I'm just using a PDA with Bluetooth GPS : works great, as demonstrated by multiple cross-country trips (2 in the truck/trailer, one in the Subie) in the last 12 months.

I got the Alpine primarily for the Ipod interface...which is the best of any of the Ipod interfaces out there right now. I also picked up a 60 GB refurbed Ipod Video, and started loading what I have ripped to it (about 2/3 of my CDs).

I have, easily accessible, right under 10000 (yes, 10K!) songs in the truck.

It'll also play DVDs at any time with use of a module that costs under $50 on E-bay

The Alpine also has a Bluetooth module available, but downside is that the Bluetooth won't work if you also have Sirius installed. Ask me how I know...

You don't need a module for the D2 or Z1, their is a hack. Hack = FREE

Technically you don't need a module for the Alpine either, you can do it with a pair of toggle switches.

However, the module does it automatically everytime you start the vehicle

Module = PAC TR-7

If the D2 is essentially the same thing as the Z1 would you be willing to sacrifice dvd playing and the build in HD to save about $800?

I would love to see a side by side comparison of the two

the z1 is the better unit i can do everything the d1/d2 can, but its waaay more expwnsive then the d1/d2... the z1 has the HDD, better graphics, plays dvds, blue tooth (if u get the box) and has the song name data base... however... moding the z1 is harder then the d1/d2
