Anyone have a HD video camera I can borrow to capture footage to my hd?
Couple weeks ago myself and a classmate rented a HD video camera and filmed some stuff for our demo reels.
Last week I went to school to try and capture the footage on my hard drive using one of our capture decks but it turns out it doesn't work with mini dv tapes using HD footage.
So if anyone has a HD video camera that uses mini dv sized tapes could let me borrow it to capture my footage that would be awesome! Camera needs to be firewire compatible. (its less than 1 hr. of footage) I'll buy you lunch or some beer for your trouble.
Also, if anyone has an HD capture deck available that would work too.
Lemme know, thanks!

dude...
IIRC, you may have to use the same recording camera to playback the tapes. i thought each deck uses their own format to record, but as soon as it hits the firewire, it's just data...
i could be wrong though...
btw, what was the deck? what kind of footage is it. maybe i can get someone here at work to capture it. you have a portable HD?

Yea I have a portable hd.
Not sure what kind of deck it was but it didn't work with the hd tapes I have. Afaik, I haven't heard anything about having to use the same camera to play back a tape.
In the past I've used tapes in different cameras and different decks to capture footage and it worked... didn't do it on purpose, just had to use what was available to me at the time. (this was for just dv footage though, not hd)

^ Like I mentioned above, I'm not sure what kind of deck it was... but it was only for capturing mini dv tapes, not mini hd tapes.
My school (BAVC) doesn't have any decks or cameras available to capture hd footage on to the computer.
Just trying to avoid having to rent any equipment again because it was expensive.

Wait...
What was your workflow?
You shot on an HD camera that used mini dv tapes. Right?
Or did you shoot on an HD cam that you then captured to an HD deck onto mini dv tapes?????

Yes correct, and the tapes used were Sony DVC HD.
I just need an HD camera or capture deck so I can use those tapes.
I already have FCP on my laptop (which is what I normally capture with) so I just need a camera or deck to capture from and put that footage onto my external hd.
