I am thinking of getting my windows tint,
and i know that you have to have 70% of light transmittance in the front windows.
and any % on the other windows.
my question is...
do cops really stop you just because you have tints in the front?
i am thinking of getting 50% in the front.
would i get a ticket just for that?

50% honestly, why bother. I mean it's your money, but if you are going to be doing something illegal anyways, why not just do something that will make more of a difference, like at least 40%. But it's your money.

My friend has an rsx with 15% on his front windows and 5% on his back three. He has been pulled over for it before, but he just paid the fine. So yes, they have, and will pull people over for window tint on the front two.

ninja edit : If you do get 50%, i would be surprised if you got pulled over. They probably wouldn't be able to tell.

 

i have 20 in the front 5 on the back 3. i only got a ticket when i got pulled over for not completly stopping. other than that ive not been pulled over for just tint.

 

just remember, when you are breaking the law you gotta pay to play.

 

I had 30% all around. Never had any issues.

Then again I was rolling around with Arizona plates so I guess it didn't matter

 

20% all around. got 1 ticket. so yeah, they care.

but I have 50% all around on my Prius and they have never even looked twice... so 50% shouldn't matter.

 

I HAD 20% front and back until a cop flipped a ***** and stopped on my way into the Cow Palace for the dog show (kinda like a concert but a whole lot more riff raff )...
and, yes, he said he stopped me only for the tint, not the baloons of heroin I was going to put in the bellies of various dogs at the show for transport.

So I get home and ask my friendly neighbor, the sherrif's deputy, to sign it off... he actualy made me take it off before he signed it!
Ugh, I find the only honest cop!

 

i've been rolling with 35's all around, no problems yet. i think as long as they can see you, you won't have any problems... that's what i think.

 

I got pulled over in S.F. by a motorcycle cop on Market at 5th for having my fronts tinted... I thought they were 50% but it turns out they were 48% (whoopdi-fing-doo) so I got a ticket.

Now, keep in mind that this was in S.F. so getting pulled over for that was really lame... and I was a block away from 6th street which if you know the city at all is where he should've been.

Anyhow, my windows are/were very lightly tinted and he was just looking for a reason to pull me over. What an asshat!

I got it signed off by a cop/friend (who could barely tell they were tinted) and paid the fine.

seriously though, that was the only time I got bothered by the police. I think most of them know that they've got better things to do up here...

 

mean while two peple were gettin mugged and one car was broken in to...

 

just get the tints. if a cop wants to pull you over, he will find a way to justify it regardless of whether you have tints. tints not only look nice, but are great during the summer time.

On my way to work I usually come across a few cops. This is in SF. They don't seem to care *knock on wood*, though during the day I will usually roll down my windows when I pull up right next to them or at least try to stay behind them if I can.

 

I have 35% and I have never been stopped. However, I got stopped when I was with my friend in his mustang for tints and he has 25%.
