Anyone for abalone diving this week?
Hey guys,
It's still low tide and I'd like to go Abalone diving again this week and get my limit. I went to Point Arena this last Sat but I'd like to go to Salt Point State Park since it is closer to SF. It's a good windy drive and I'd be willing to drive (all I ask is for the passengers to split gas) or someone else can drive and I'd pitch in for gas. I'm free everyday until this Wed so for those of you who just graduated or are on early retirement like me, drop me a line if you are interested.
For those of you who don't know what it is or never gone, you need your CA fishing license, the abalone report card license, a wetsuit with water shoes, snorkel, mask, etc. Also, you'll need the abalone iron pry bar as well as a measuring gauge. They are $14 total for the abalone iron/gauge at Gus' discount tackle store in SF but definitely more expensive elsewhere and Big5 and Sports Authority does not carry them.
The tides are low so you may not even need to dive. For me, I'd prefer not to dive since I'm not a great swimmer.
BTW, this is pretty much exactly what it is like going abalone diving when it is low tide.

Yup, if it's low tide, there's no need to dive or go out far at all. You'd just be waist/chest deep in water so the chance of any sharks or drowning is very, very low.
