Any themed/luxury resort type places in the tahoe area? For wife's Bday!

Hey guys and gals,

My wife's bday is coming up in September and I've been planning on taking her to a nice luxury resort or themed hotel (you know those cool themed hotels where each room has a different theme?) for a weekend since she works so damn hard and totally deserves a mini vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the bay area. She works crazy hours and is treated like crap at work so I want her to be able to have a worry free weekend filled with massages, spa treatment, and just overall a luxurious experience.

I was hoping to find a spa-like place near Tahoe where we could spend 3 days and 2 nights, somewhere with pools, hot tubs, and the basic spa treatment. I've seen some themed hotels in tahoe on the travel channel a long time ago and that seemed like the idea type of escape for us. Does anyone know anything about these type of places? Each room has a different theme, and each theme is totally overdone and way over the top which makes it really fun! If we can't find a place like that, I'm hoping to find a nice hotel/lodge with all the comforts of home with lots of things to do near the said hotel.

Can you guys help out? I don't know the tahoe area very well at all so I'm running blind here, but I know some of you have lived there and spent a lot of time there, so perhaps you guys could suggest something? The place doesn't have to be a 5 star resort, it just has to be super comfortable and nice, and needs to have things to do near by that we could do... We're basically just looking for a place to escape to for her bday, somewhere that she can get spa treatment such as massages, manicures, and whatever else girls like.

Tahoe isn't set in concrete, but just somewhere I thought would be cool, but I'm open to other areas in CA like natural hot springs, nature-like places, so maybe someone has suggestions for places (I heard calistoga is really nice and has spa's and natural springs, anyone know about it?)

Thanks guys, I appreciate any help.

I don't know about themed places in Tahoe area... but if you want luxury/hot tubs/pools/spa/etc you should check out some of the larger ski resorts: Squaw would def fit the bill. Look for deals because they can get pricey.

You should also take her to Donner Lake because that is f*cking perfection. Life does not get any better than planting your *** on a dock there and kickin it!

The new Marriott in the heavenly base camp is ****ing aces man. I'm not sure everything you're looking for but http://www.shannonsdayspa.com/ is awesome and not far from the Marriott. Plus it's centrally located near the casinos while not being in them.

I know of a nice glass house on North Shore, it's like $5k a night. I'll see if I can find it online.. You're basically staying in a huge glass house and you have full amenities and have a great view of Lake Tahoe..

Wow! As cool as that sounds, it probably wouldn't be the best idea for us since we tend to throw rocks at random times for little or no reason The $5k a night is also making me cringe a little.

Holy crap, man! That is the absolutely PERFECT place, exactly what I had in mind! The rooms are about $290 a night, but there is a 25% off coupon starting on the day before we would check in! How cool is that?!

I wanna take her her there for 3 days, so Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we leave. Thanks to the coupon we'll be saving just shy of $75 a night which makes it far more affordable. It's a 4 star hotel but is nicer then some 5 star hotels Ive been to! That place just looks amazing! Thank you so much for recommending that!

Also, that spa you recommended looks great too! They have a nice 3 hour spa special which includes everything a girl wants, so I'll def surprise her with that.

Am I the best husband or what? jk

She soooo deserves this, she works her *** off at a job she hates (she's graphic designer and loves the job, she just hates who she works for) and does crazy hours and hardly ever gets any sleep because of it, so this is my way of allowing her to relax for 3 days and not have to worry about anything.

The rooms are equipped with everything we need so I can cook us dinners that we can eat on the balcony, or we can just order out... She's gonna love it!

Thanks again for recommending such a great place, it's exactly what I had in mind too! Those places are always so cozy and nice!

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone, (Manhands), Our weekend is going to be super special.

We booked the premium king 1 bedroom villa which is the highest end room minus the presidential suite which is way too much for us. They have a standard king 1 bedroom villa, but the premium gets better sheets, pillows, TV, soaps, etc... As well as a nice balcony overlooking the lake area!

We're booked for 3 nights, leaving the bay area Friday morning and leaving tahoe sunday afternoon. I booked my wife a really cool spa "vacation" which takes a little over 3 hours and includes basically everything from massages to pedicures, she doesnt know about it but she will be stoked!

Since we have the hotel and spa down (www.shannonsdayspa.com), I was wondering if you guys knew of any good restaurants to go to? Doesn't have to be all fancy or anything, just as long as the food is great! I know some of you know the area fairly well, can you suggest a few places if you know of any? I'd really appreciate it. I want to have everything planned before we depart.

Do you guys know if it will be snowing on the sept 11th weekend?

Here are some pics of the place, it's rated at 4 stars but is much nicer then some 5 star places Ive been too. It's way more comfortable and homey instead of super high fashion couches that you can't sit on for more then 3 mins without your back giving out, so this lodge rocks!

There aren't any pictures of the premium king 1 bedroom villa, so just imagine a better version of the rooms posted below:

Pools are SUPER heated, so much that they give off steam.

Like I said, these are the "lower" rooms, they don't have pics of the room we're staying in, but Im sure it's pretty similar.

The rooms have everything we want, including a two person shower and a spa/bath tub with jets (oversized)

On last question I have, can anyone throw in some extra romance tips for our weekend getaway? I have a few things planned up my sleeve, not to mention the day spa surprise (it's a 3 hour spa treatment where they basically do everything to her, lol, she's gonna be so stoked). Should I do the rose pedal thing on the bed for her? Bring some candles and surprise her when she comes back to the room, or is that too cheesy? She loves roses and candles so I figure it will be an instant win.

Anyway, big props to manhands for recommending this place! It's EXACTLY what I was picturing in my head!

Rooms cost like $270 a night, but we have a coupon (online) that makes it $201 a night which is totally worth it

We're leaving the bay area early morning Friday and returning sunday evening.

Also, one last, LAST question. Does anyone know if there will be snow up there on the sept 11th weekend? If there isn't Im going to bring my mountain bike, if there's snow, I'll bring a snowboard. Win-win for the both of us!

I only WISH it would snow the week of Sept. 11... man, what an epic ski season that would be!
It usually doesn't start snowing till November/Thanksgiving.

Yeah, I figured as much which means I'll be bringing two of my mountain bikes, a downhill bike and an XC bike for the various terrain. I'm going to hit up the ski lifts with my bike and bomb it downhill. I'll do my best to attach my flip cam to the handle bars so you guys can see how bad *** it is! Best part is not having to pedal up the hill!

I'm telling you guys, if you want to win over points with your significant other, this is the way to do it! Surprising her with an awesome luxury weekend getaway with spa treatment and wine tasting.

The bill including gas to get there, food, hotel room charge, etc will be just about $1,000 which is pretty good considering that we're staying at the lodge for 3 nights and will be eating out at nice restaurants and I will be buying a lift ticket as well. I want this to be something we both remember for a long time.

Danielle, if your man did something like this for you, would he score major points for doing so? Especially since he's doing it all for you and for your bday. Or would you see it as cheesy?

F' that, there's no way you can drag me to Mexico, not now, not ever!

I was even offered to stay at my friends time share in Cozumel for up to a week, all we needed to pay for was air and food, but I declined due to how ghetto it has become, just this past year or two also! Not even the resorts are safe anymore.
