Had pure subaru in the forester, ground into 1st, Caught going into all other gears, felt like I was shifting a mack truck. Swaped out to, like I said above, smurf blood, and she shifts fast and never grinds now.

My grinding in 1st completely dissappeared after I switched out for Swepco at LIC Motorsports. Stuff ain't cheap but worth it if you drive hard regularly.

I've tried Subaru gold, Swepco, redline, and motul.

The Subaru gold is alright but feels a bit notchy. It is, however, nice in a wide variety of temperatures.

The Swepco is good stuff in general except on cold mornings where its very difficult to get into gear until things warm up a bit.

The redline is a bit too light for our trannies and can cause some grinding. I also remember it being very difficult to get into gear on a cold morning as well.

Finally I tried Motul 300 about 6 months ago and haven't wanted to try anything since. Its great on cold mornings, no trouble getting into gear at all. Shifts of any kind (slow or quick) are nice and smooth.

It also cleaned up a small grind I would get with the other fluids when shifting aggressively into 2nd gear. I tend to shift pretty hard when I'm trying to have fun, so I'm probably pushing the fluid a bit harder than most.

Also FYI, the 5MT and 6MT respond differently to the different fluids. What's good for one may not be the best for the other.

Thanks

Truth, and the foresters 5MT is geared a bit different than the WRX's so it again is going to react different.

Be careful using the Smurf Blood in Subaru 5 speeds; it has the propensity to clog the input shaft oil catcher.

I've pulled apart more than one tranny that had this part clogged up nearly 100%.

I'm not worried, I warm up my car in cold temps before driving it. After 55K miles of the smurf blood (daily/track/autox), it's come out nice.

I have an RS, with 184k miles on my, original, transmission. The fact it hasn't exploded into a million pieces due to my abuse says something about this stuff.

Before I ran the swepco I used to use Motul, Subaru and Syncromesh. With these I always had grinding in gears. The Swepco is definitely really, really thick when cold, but once the engine is warm, the transmission follows.

Well, I definitely recommend Swepco 201 80w-90

http://www.swepcousa.com/lubesite/products/h201.htm

You can get it from LIC Motorsports or Lubrify.com
