any ideas what went wrong ?

So late last night I was on my way home in the forester when all of the sudden I lost power. Tired giving it gas.. nothing. Then, a few seconds later the engine died, along with all the electrical. Seconds before everything died the CEL biliked and i also remeber seeing the battery
light. Luckily I was able to roll the car off the road, only to realize I had no cell service. Out of necessity I tried restarting the car, and sure enough it worked. I let the car idle a bit to see if it was running weird, but all seemed well so I went on my way.
Any ideas on what could have happened? I'm suppose to drive it to work later on, but I'm worried something might happen again leaving me stranded.
As always, I really appreciate the feedback.

What comes to mind is a bad Alternator belt, Knock Sensor, or bad fuel.

Is the CEL on?

that happened to me abut 3-4 times in the span of owning my sti in 3 years. One was comming back from subiefest on highway 5, and it did it randomly. The other was on my way back home from bam and it happened again on the highway. Last one was on my way to speedelement. Since it started right back up, it's not the alternator imo. I thought it was just bad grounds so i never bothered to fix it. But mine never had a CEL blink or anything. It was llike an EMP hit my car and it all just shutoff at once, kinda weird lol.

Same thing happened to my car about a month ago. I was washing my car and I guess I got some water on my intake somehow, car threw a code and it shut off. And It was raining last night.

Strange thing was the cel was nowhere to be seen once I started it back up. I know for sure it blinked a few times before it all shut down.
I wanna say I smelled something funny... but I was overall panicked so who knows.

Hmm.. thats what worries me, I can't have this happen randomly since I drive home late and have no service for most of the drive. I could wait 30 minutes to see a car on that road.
Funny that you mentioned an emp, cause that's exactly what went through my head lol.

Yeah, I've heard that can happen. But up here it wasnt raining last night and like I said the cel is a bit of a mystery since it blinked, then was nowhere to be seen upon restart
