Our 30+ year old furnace cant keep a pilot light on.
I been told/read that it might need a new thermocouple...
I went to OSH but the dude there... well...
Help.... if you are in the biz, lets talk.

Does the flame light when you are attempting to light the pilot and then go out after you change the gas valve from pilot to main? If yes, then yes you need a new thermocouple/flame sensor whatever you want to call it. Realistically if you furnace is 30yrs old you might want to start looking at a replacement, service life is entirely dependent on how well it is taken care of but 30yrs is getting up there in age and a newer one would be vastly more efficient saving you quite a bit of money on your bill. Feel free to ask any questions I am a commercial hvac/controls tech.

Thermocouple. Are you in the bay, go to API Marcone Appliance Parts in San Carlos.. Just remove the old one and bring it with you. should be a screw/nut holding the bracket on with a wire, detach the wire too.
