Any bay area Subaru techs!

Question for you guys, try to get a key and fob programmed for my 06 wrx sti. The dealer in my city said they couldn't program it because it wasn't communicating, they said I have to get rid of my turbo timer and see if that makes a difference, wondering also if my ecu being programmed to stage 1 with an AP has anything to do with it. Any suggestions? Or people that have gone through this before.

I don't see what the turbo timer would have to do with it. I have an Apexi turbo timer on my car that was installed by the previous owner. I did not uninstall it because I didn't want to deal with it, but it is set to Off. I am also flashed to Cobb stage 2 so the AP has nothing to do with it.

Are we talking keyless entry i.e. lock and unlock? Or are we talking about the immobilizer chip in the key?

Lock and unlock, they got the key to work. I got with the tech that did it, went back to stock with and the AP and still nothing. I think I'm just gonna rip out the turbo timer, I'm 100% sure the previous owner installed it wrong based on the quality of his workmanship on the other mods.

Are you able to arm your car when the turbo timer is running? If so, there are 2 wires that have been spliced in order for that operation to be completed. You need to reconnect those two wires in order to reprogram an existing key or to add any new ones.

Dark green with black stripe on keyless entry module. And Grey cable on safety module under ebrake center console cover.

I wouldn't be able to do this, I don't have a working fob. I bought the car with only a valet key and fob that wasn't programmed:/

What I am saying is........ those wires I spoke about, would have to be spliced in order for arming to be achieved while the turbo timer is running and counting down. If you are unable to reprogram or program at all, that means those wires are most likely cut. Removing the turbo timer would not fix the problem. Reconnecting those wires would.......... At least that sounds like what the issue is to me.

When I was under there today I didn't see any weird wires running to the center console or too the keyless module. I was especially looking for weird splices. But I will take another look 2mrw thanks for your input, it's weird the dealer got a key to program but the fob won't.

There are no wires being run to those two locations, just wires from those two locations being cut.
