Another +1 for Mike at Gruppe-S

Well I brought my STi in for a pro-tune this morning. I was sitting waiting in the front after he ran 2 baseline pulls on the dyno when he came back in. At first I was scared, I thought something was wrong with my car. Well apparently it was quite the opposite, since I have a stromung exhaust (same as the cobb), it pulled hard with nice AF ratios throughout the RPM range. Thus is actually performed as it should, since my car is likely similar to the one cobb used to tune the maps.

It put out 266whp and 275wtq on the cobb map. He then advised me to save my money since there isn't much room left for improvement with the pro-tune. This is an 05 STi with K&N panel filter and a 3" stromung turboback.

So i was a bit disappointed I didn't come away with a pro-tuned beast, but quite happy with the numbers, he said it was one of the best baseline runs he's seen

+1 again

Would there have been gains using a different exhaust? Enough to warrant a protune?

I dunno. Maybe with the 3.5" APS or something else godawfully loud

I think the main problem is, most people run the cobb maps, which are tuned for a specific ehxaust/car. If you dont have that combo, then they tend to run very rich and dont make as much power as they should, so a protune helps a lot in these cases.

But since my car likely matched well with the car cobb used to make the maps, I didn't see these problems.

That's what I took away from what Mike said at least.

I'm just looking for a good stopping point on an initial set of mods if I ever talk myself into it.

Basically I've seen that you can have your injector duty cycles to the point of needing the Walbro fuel pump with pretty much just exhaust and tune. Is that the tune doing that, or is it because of added things like turbo porting and headers? What are your IDCs at now? That would be a good indication of power to me. That's basically where I want to stop: making the best use of the stock turbo/fueling system/IC.

Grats on the car btw, I'm sure it's a blast to drive.

If you ever get the itch for more power, fill up the tank with 100 octane VP Racing Unleaded if you have one of those Unocal 76 stations nearby. Mike will be able to find a nice fat torque increase with the additional overhead provided by the race gas. Nice to have a race gas map for those occasional track days or drag strip grudge nights.

I think stock injectors are pretty much at the duty cycle peak with just a turboback and stage 2 map. Ive seen some charts of them being at 96% or so with just the exhaust.

I think the stock vf39 is capable of nearly 300whp (on the gruppe-s dyno), but injectors and a FP will be needed, as well as race gas

I'll think about the race gas map, I'm itching for more power. When you daily drive it just starts to become tame

Yeah im happy with 266. All of the protuned ones ive seen put out 270-275 with similar mods.

Keep in mind stock STis put down 215-220 on the gruppe-s dyno

45whp+ for just an exhaust isnt bad

i dyno'd my integra (non-vtec) at 200hp to the wheels with a t3/t4 turbo @ 7psi untuned with a n/a motor that dyno'd stock at around 145 to the wheels. high 13s easily with no traction whatsoever in 1st gear.
Was that 200 whp on a Mustang dynamometer?

Nice numbers for the base map.. Mike's a nice guy 3 or 4 more WHP isn't all that worth it.
Just but that money aside for a Turbgo upgrade

Probably a dynojet. 200whp for a turbo'd B18B is pretty sorry. LOL. Most of the ones I've seen make 250whp at around 8-10psi, my old DC2 Integra with a Rev Hard Stg.2 turbo kit (T3/T04E) made 320'ish whp @ 1BAR.

Oh and BTW, How does a N/A non-VTEC Integra dyno at 145whp stock, when they only have 140 CRANK hp stock. LOL.

I'm gonna say no on that one

Im pretty sure id be flirting with 300whp on a dynapack/dynojet

Gruppe-s' dyno reads godawfully low

Yup. He could have easily charged me for an hour of dyno time for a few whp, but he's a standup guy and let me know it wasn't worth it.
