I received my first speeding ticket (25mph over the limit) in September of 2003, I paid a hefty fine, and was able to take traffic school.

I received another speeding ticket (10mph over the limit) in September of 2004, I paid the fine, and a point went on my record.

I am about to take another trip up north, and am wondering if I get another speeding ticket if I am eligible for traffic school again since it has been more then 18 months since my first ticket.
Or does the gov. count the time from your most recent ticket?
Just wondering how careful I need to be since last time I got popped I was driving slower then everyone else. I was not local to the town, and I was the only one with a new car in the town so I got popped. :\

 

i BELIEVE that they count from when u last took traffic school.

 

I think it's from when you got your first ticket, not from when you take traffic school. Since court times can take forever to process your ticket blah blah blah.

 

its time in between traffic schools...you can take it every 18 months

 

18 months from the traffic school date is what I remember. If you do it before the 18th month, they will show a code on your MVR that shows multiple traffic school within 18 months.

 

so if I got another speeding ticket, God forbid I do, I can take traffic school and not get a point? That would be awesome!

I really need to find a safe/legal outlet to vent this need for speed though. :x

 

18 months from issue of citation

 

18 months from the date of the previous citation BUT it is also up to the judge's discretion.

 

so then I can not take traffic school since my last citation was within the last 18 months?

 

no 18 months since the last citation used for traffic school.
i.e. you got a ticket in sept 2003 and went to traffic school for it.
you got a nother citation in sept. 2004. but u got a point

but if you get another ticket now, you will be able to goto traffic school, because it is past 18months from the sept.2003 ticket.

 

i always thought you can take traffic school every 18 months.

My understanding was that if you get 3 tickets within 2 years, you're most likley to be eligible to take traffic school for the 1st ticket and the last ticket.

 

correct, though if you filled out the portion requesting traffic school and its within 18 mos and the court says OK...you're good to go! I've been to traffic school too many times and the instructor even mentions that little loophole.

 

Its really pretty easy. Follow the law. Don't speed. Don't run with illegal tint. Put your front plate on.
