Am I an @ss that I don't feel sorry for this guy?
So last night I was dropping a friend off down at Santa Cruz. It was raining pretty hard on/off on our way down there so I knew the road condition on 17 would be pretty bad.
After we passed the summit and started going down hill. After about 15-20 turns or so I looked at my rear view mirror to find a car FLYING up fast but I was just slowly passing a guy so he was blocked off by the both of us. He tailed me so close I couldn't even see his head lights! So I sped up, switched over, he flew right by me.
A hard off camber left turn was coming up, which followed by another off camber right with a BIG turn-out in between. As he approch the hard left without braking. I was like, wow, that's some mad skill and VERY good suspension and tires. Then I saw him braked inside the corner and next thing I saw was sparks from his driver side fender rubbing aginst the right wall then bounce and head straight for the left wall.
So basically he went in too hot, rear came out a bit, brake (God why?!?), spun, hit right wall with driver fender, bounce and hit left wall head on.
Only if he would have stay on the throttle just a little longer and go into the turn-out instead of brake, spin, and smash.
He missed the turn out by just few car length.
Nice car, bad driver....
I drove by slowly and was going to pull over, but the car behind me did already so I left. I thought the driver was very stupid and inconsiderate. What happen if I was in the turn while he comes flying up, spin, and hit me instead of the wall? What if he had a passenger? I didnt/don't feel bad for him.
Oh, enjoy my mad 5 minutes MSPaint skill!

feel sorry for the car not the driver.
17 will eat you alive if you do not respect it...ESPECIALLY in the rain.
I've seen more than a few cars do that. I think I know the very corner you're talking about..... anything in the turn out?
I've spun on 17...ONCE and saved it. not a scratch. It's a dangerous road. I had a few buddies in high school mash it up there.

I love the picture.
You're correct in your feelings. Seems as if the driver was driving too fast for conditions (and his driving skills)
and endangering the lives of people around him/her. Exactly what you said

Couple months ago I came around a corner and there was car sitting in the slow lane on it's side. Once a few winters ago in ONE drive over the hill I saw 5 cars mashed in 3/4 different accidents. One was a saab that looked like it spun and hit the bank and flipped. Luggage all over the highway.
People need to respect that road. It's not rated one of the most hazerdous sections of highway in california for no reason.

Until they put the midline divider up, 17 was the deadliest highway in the whole United States. Since then, it's still in the top 5 for # of crashes, but they're less deadly now. Either way, though, slow tf down when you go there...it's designed just about opposite of the way a race course is.

there is a center divid so he wouldn't hit me from the other side. BUT he could have ram into me if I was next to him in the turn.
