Alternate car
Alright, so i'm thinking of trading in my WRX and driving around a fuel effiecient little sports car for a while till i can both afford to buy an STI and pay for its gas.
So, the car can be used - preferably newer, but i will consider older cars if they are *totally sweet*. I'd like to keep the price below 15k. Here are the cars i am thinking about.
Mazda miata
'74 and lower Alfa romero GTV
Volvo P1800
CRX si
Already have a 510, but its waiting for a restoration.
Any other suggestions?
ROCK!

yeah, i was thinking about that too - i see quite a bit of them in berkeley, all tricked out with the old cirlce number thing, but yeah - italian engineering......hmmm - may have to swap a decent engine in it and make all the "purists" gasp. Good lookin car though...

You may also want to check out the 1986 Dodge Omni GLH. The turbo models hall rear, but the GLHS (Shelby) turbo model is the one to have. They sure aren't sexy, but they are damn fast stock. Low 6sec. 0-60 and low 14sec. quarter mile. Second fastest production american car at the time, second only to the Buick Grand National. And talk about a sleeper!

why don't you just finish restoring the 510 and keep the wrx as a weekender/track car?
If you go buying a small sports car or something like a CRX si you're gonna end up burning a whole in your pocket fixing it up and repairing it..not to mention making it faster as the power drop from the WRX is gonna drive you nuts.
Not to mention that these sports cars do ok with gas new..and stock. Once you start tuning they drop quickly at times. My 97 civic SOHC nonvtec was down to 24mpg at one point in time.
Either that or buy yourself a commuter that is NOT a sports car.

Miata would be the most reliable car on that list and its super fun to drive. The power shouldn't bother you too much since it's so light.
I was also thinking of the same thing.. but I might get the miata as my track car and put my wrx back into daily driver status.

I get over 30 mpg in my 88 crx si, and it's a lot of fun to drive, even though it's pretty much stock. Since it's almost stock, it is very reliable. It has over 175k on it, and nothing has gone wrong yet. I am thinking about getting a Miata, too. It's just as much fun as the crx, but a different kind of fun.

I'm just saying from experience that if you buy a car like that....a sports car that's ecomical on gas....it's very likely you'll spend money on suspension bits and bolt ons and stuff like that. I bought my civic as a commuter car and ended up sinking THOUSANDS of dollars into it.
Was just a warning...not telling you what to do. If you didn't want people's advice then why start the thread. So if that shut up was directed to me...kiss off. I was just trying to help.
