To all the vendors who didnt get to run the "Shootout" at Buttonwillow
Hey guys,
I have an idea,
since the shootout didnt happen, who would be down for piggybacking on a NASA or SCCA event ( one of the HPDE nasa group four events would work ) to do it?
A good friend of mine runs timing/scoring for nasa so we should be able to get transponders, the only prob is traffic ( unless we could get them to give us about a half hour ) or maybe just a wheel to wheel race ( 5 laps maybe lol )
anyway, just checking interest before I try to set it up, would probably be a month or so out, I am thinking a thunderhill or Sears Point day....

the only problem w/ that is that HPDE is not setup for time trial or straight up racing.
not that you can't do a time trial during an HPDE... many do us timing gadgets and log lap times... but its not consistent.
one session you get a lot of traffic... another session you may have 2/3/4 laps just free track to mob.
the best way is to have another track day soon.
why don't we just setup another track day at thunderhill this summer?
anyone down?

I agree on the HPDE , I was hoping through friends we could talk the officials into giving us a small time slot, but wanted to see interest before pulling favors.
another track day works for me as well, T-Hill would probably be cheapest, and no offense to anyone who is partial to buttonwillow but it is a bit far for all of us nor-cal guys.
I think we could probably secure a weekday at T-Hill, how about us vendors and maybe alex get together and try to set it up?

count Adam & I in for sure....i don't care how we do it!!! NASA HPDE would be cool....little grudge match mixed in with group 4 sounds good to me.......traffic??? who cares about traffic, that's the best part
Sears Point would definitely be the best....I have a feeling alot more BAIC members would show to peep the action....
It's on!!

how can you compete in an even playing field when...
1. each member is not given equal # of minutes on the track to attain a low time.
2. you compete w/ me (you can take that either way )
but seriously... the best thing to do is to have another SUBY Track day.
NOR CAL SUBY TRACK DAY.....
who's down? and away w/ these crazy 'let's crash an HPDE to have a time traial cotest' ideas!
TRACK DAY PLEASE!

NASA = too many cars per session.
Unlimitedlaps = not too bad in their Red group, but there are some monster Radical SR3s to look out for.
GoldenGateLotus Club = tons of track time, 2 run groups (you can run in both if you want). One group is complete open passing, the other group, is no passing in turns (unless pointed by).
I'd vote for GGLC, if you need to do a mini-shootout.

Sounds great, set it up and I will make my donation. I had a blast on the track at Buttonwillow and would love to do it again. Thunderhill would be cool.......Sears is a better track but I bet it costs a bit more then Buttonwillow or Thunderhill and the lower the price the more subies will be there.

Warren Smith owns the Buttonwillow track. I just found out that him and my grandpappy are very close. Event opportunities may be more common in the following months if I just give him a call.
Although Sears point would be very nice!

ok so the idea's are
1. crash a big subie meet at a track somewhere, although that means a big drive for basically all of us. Granted its not too bad ( doing the rally thing you get used to long tow's )
2. We get in with another sanctioning body ( nasa , unlimited laps etc ) and see if we can talk them into letting us go play for a little bit during lunch etc .
3. Subie track day # 2, we would have to do it on a weekday as odds are the tracks are all booked up for the weekends by now. I do know thunderhill does test/tune days on fridays but I am also pretty sure that you have to have a logbooked car in order to run.
so lets see who wants what, also, I think we need more than the 3 vendors we have to really go and put on a standalone event. so lets see if anyone else wants to jump into the ring as well.
Another note, I dont have a problem doing this wheel to wheel, but I think there should be some rules to figure out who is comfortable doing what, there are dangers that arise in a true race environment ( how many of you have touched mirrors at 100 + ) so me not knowing the experience/comfort level of everyone else it may be a good idea to set some ground rules as far as things like passing into braking zones/ who has the racing line at what point etc goes. So if you want to go wheel to wheel, lets see what everyone’s thoughts are regarding it.
just some more thoughts, lets keep this going and make it happen!

LIC Motorsports is in for sure...
I think we all probably agree that trying to set this up with NASA, SCCA, etc...is not the best/safest idea. SD said it best, "Subie track day #2"
What is the shootout going to clarify?
Is this shootout, to see driver ability? Or purely most modified car? Or a little of both?
If we get the basic understanding of what you're all looking to accomplish, then the ground rules can be set.
For example if your looking for driver ability, then:
1. Driver must be owner of the car (no professional drivers driving your car, it defeats the purpose)
WHAT IS THE REASONING, SO WE KNOW HOW TO ACCOMPLISH EVERYONE'S GOALS HERE...
THE PLAYING FIELD MUST BE APPLES TO APPLES!!!
(Otherwise Gary Sheehan, wins )

From my understanding of the original shootout, it was a little of who has the most built/capable car and a bit of driver ability ( and alot of bragging rights I am sure )
I believe whoever built the car needs to drive it, otherwise we are getting into big budget drivers etc ( unless thats what everyone else wants ) The only way to run the cars equally head to head we get one driver, and have them drive all the cars.
No matter what way we go about this, we arent truly proving the best car/tuning without having driver skill come into the equation, as the best car could have the slowest driver etc. but it seems most logical to have the builder/owner drive thier vehicle.
more thoughts?
