Thumbs up Lol

Yup I know it is nasty, but it is a good example of a really bad necrotic wound. Black Widows usually don't cause that, but they are really toxic and you know it if you were bitten by them.
My only guess to his wound is it might have been some other type of spider, not poisenious, and it was simply infected, and the poision it did have gave way for the infection to run rampit.

Oh, really?
The next "spider" most familiar to Californians-the brown recluse-is a myth. There are no populations of brown recluse spiders living in California. In case, this upsets your applecart, I repeat, there are no populations of brown recluse spiders living in California.

That's odd, don't you think?

As long as we're trying to gross each other out on spider bites try this one

http://www.big-boys.com/articles/spiderbite.html

Unless they've been shipped here in the last 10 years there's no brown recluses in CA. I was glad to get away from them when I moved to the bay area.

Here's a map of it's territory:

So you don't get caught up in the hype:

You want a spider to fear? Check out that hobo spider.

Ok well I was looking at there map and it showed an area in south Eastern California. But I admit it when I am wrong and I was. The area is known to be home to a spider. It is designated as the deserta area. It seems to have a populious of recluse spiders, but not brown recluse.

I do have a doctor friend who works here in Santa Clara county. He has seen recluse spider bites in the area, but most were from folks who recently came from the south where there are present. They might hitch a ride in your suit case home then bite ya once they figured out they have no buddies to hang out with.

Yeah I am not caught up in any hype. There are lots of other nasty things out there that can cause real damage. Try a rattle snake.. Man those will cause real bad things to happen.

Thanks for catching my bad attempt at speed reading, or surfing or well you get the point...

Here is the map I saw.

California has 2 recluse spiders that are usually in the southern desert region. One's a migrant from Chile.

iirc, all recluse spiders have that necrotic (too lazy to see if i just made that word up?) venom.

Talking

Yup but they didn't explain the legend for us stupid folk..
Nope pink.. Necrotic stand for dead. Necrosis is the afliction when the flesh around a wound or trauma dies. People who have brown recluse bites had the flesh area around the bite die.
Folks with massive trauma from bike accedents etc also can have limbs go necrotic from no blood supply, i.e. all the arteries or viens have been damaged to the point that the prgan or limb dies.
People with unatended diabetes can also have this happen but it is usualy acompanied by a bad absess etc prior.
It is really gross actually...

ne·cro·sis (n-krss, n-)
n. pl. ne·cro·ses (-sz)

Death of cells or tissues through injury or disease, especially in a localized area of the body.

I was bitten by a brown recluse when I was younger. Yes, "there are recluses in California"... Blah blah blah. Tell that to the doctor that treated me.
