I know, that's why I negotiated the price first.
The problem is that we were $9000 apart on the trade-in.
That's why I told them to give me my keys and I was leaving.

You're shocked at this? Even my mom has laughed at trade in offers and said "no, you're giving us more." and got more
It's also business, maximize profit by lowering their cost. Especially now! Majority of people need money, so they're more willing to sell (and willing to sell faster at a lower price). The dealer then marks up the price of the car to a fairly high amount. A seller comes along and goes "Thats too high, I'll give you $x" and they haggle. The dealership finally makes the guy think he's getting himself a good deal and buys the car, dearshup profiting.

Dealers always do that. One dealer offered me 4k for my 03rs in 2007 when it had 45k on it and said dealer gave me 10 after 2 hours of dealing with them but they listed it at 13 on their website. Also, if you can try to get them to take money off the car you are buying instead of the giving you more for your trade in since you pay less in taxes that way... But 1500 is laughable.

I normally wouldnt trade my cars in either i try to sell them first. When we bought my tribeca though we did trade in my husbands sti because the price they did give us. My husbands sti was low miles and taken care of well so they gave an offer and we took it. Wasnt bad only paying 6k to own it 2 years.

I went there once to get my clutch changed under warranty. They said they don't cover the clutch and thats bull**** because i called cooperate and they said bring it to Albany Subaru and they will fix it. Dude there tried selling me a clutch so i just left. Eventually got my clutch changed for free at Downtown Toyota in Oakland....

Worst case scenario, you can take it to one of these car auction guys. They offered my 5K for my bugeye, and its far from being able to smog. So, you can always try that!
